Question Numbers not adding up?

So I have been crawling around underneath the camper installing my rearview camera system (will do a post on that later) and noticed the sticker on the axles say 4400 lbs. Well, the load information for the trailer itself says maximum weight is 9000 lbs. That's a difference of 200 lbs. by my math. I don't think I will ever have enough stuff in the camper for it to weigh 9000 lbs but how can this be? Does Keystone figure that 200 lbs. difference will be supported by the tow rig at the hitch?

Actually, they figure more than 200 lbs on the hitch. A 4400 lb axle is a standard size axle with enough weight rating to support the rest of the RV weight.

My 5er is 15,500 with 7k lb axles, but I have nearly 3k on the pin.

Your camper has a dry (shipped) weight of 7213#'s and a hitch weight of 925#'s. So that is roughly 3144#'s on each 4400# axle. Plenty of room to grow!

Fully loaded at 9,000 lbs, you should have 10-15% of the weight on the hitch. So between 900 and 1,350 of tongue weight. So between 8,100 and (where's my calculator) 7,650 on the axles.

Thanks everybody for the replies. I get it now. I reckon by industry standards, if the axles could support the full 9K lbs. then it would be overbuilt.

We wouldn't want overbuilt would we?? I mean, it would take away all the fun of worrying about every little weight issue, trying to make sure we don't go over that 50lb margin they give us etc. Nah, overbuilt would probably just be boring

Also a point to remember, is when you scale weigh your rv, the weight of your wheels don't add to the weight on the axles. Just weight on the scales. Possibly another 200lbs right there.

Luckily, my shop has a good set of embark scales. I'm weighing all 8 axles this afternoon.
