Question 2014 Dodge Ram 2500

Hi Everyone, - We are thinking of purchasing a Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Crew Cab 4x4 Diesel. Upon checking with our Camping dealer, they say the 2014 is not equipped to haul a fifth wheel. It seems we need a 5th Wheel Gooseneck Prep Package installed first. Has anyone had this happen to them? Right now we are pulling with a 2004 Ford 350. We plan to take the hitch out of this truck and use it in the new one. Any comments out there? Thanks.

I have heard this on other forums. I heard that kit for fiver hitch on 3500 is available. Have you considered a SRW 3500? You will then be able to handle more payload and not much more $. It would likely mean factory ordering as most dealers don't usually stock SRW 1 tons.

When I bought my 2012 3500, the price difference between that and the 2500 was around 300 bucks. It does weigh 69lbs more, but the fuel mileage is identical. It was a no brainer for me, wanted the extra towing capacity. I did have to order it, as I wanted 4.10 gears, and couldn't find one on lot. This is a Single Rear Wheel truck.

I would check with the truck dealer on the truck specs vs the camper dealer. I know that in 2013 there was a delay due to the difference in frame to get gooseneck and fifth wheel hitches . I would say check with hitch manufactures and see what they have as well. Reese and b&w seem to be the most popular.

I did some "Googling" on the subject as I am awaiting my 2014 Ram 3500!

Hopefully, I can shed a little light on this one. Get your dealer to run a line sheet on your truck using your VIN. If the truck is equipped with build code AHU you require a 5th wheel hitch mounting bracket part number 82213667 as well as a 5th wheel hitch part number 82213824.
If the vehicle is not equipped with build code AHU you will require a Mopar 5th wheel prep package part number 82213665AB as well.
PM me if you have any other questions or send me your VIN and I will run the line sheet for you.
Canadian prices on the above listed parts numbers as follows:
82213824 $203.00 list
82213667 $679.00 list
82213665AB $363.00 list

To the best of my knowledge I am correct in what I have told you. When I read the OP I found it hard to believe that a new 2500 could not be used to tow a 5th so I just had a chat with our sales manager.
