Faux Rock Wall Surround

I've been planning this mod for several weeks and finally received the panels from TexturePlus. I used the fire rated, interlocking stacked stone pattern in natural grey. This project wasn't cheap, each panel costs $63.95 and oversize shipping added another $50.00. However, I'm very pleased with the results.

The fire rated panels are designed for installation around fireplaces, so should be fine around the stove. The panels are made from a molded polymer foam that's easily cut using a keyhole saw with a hack saw blade. I block sanded the edges using medium grit sandpaper for a custom fit. The 2 ft x 4 ft panels were cut approximately in half for a total installed weight of about 3.5 lbs.

Wow! Nice! And lightweight, to boot! That’s the type of mod I like: impressive looks without much weight. Makes the trailer more homey.

I was meticulous in cutting and shaping the panels to fit very tight. I haven't permanently attached them yet, and am considering several semi-permanent options. Whatever I use will allow me to remove the panels with minimal damage to the wall.

The two panels are bonded together into a single assembly using polyurethane glue. The complex shape cut to fit around the cabinet and vent hood has it locked in place pretty tight. I might just let friction take care of things along the top edge and pop a few small screws along the bottom.

The vendor claims the panels may be wiped down with a damp cloth and mild soap/detergent like Simple Green. The panels have a paint like coating on them that's like a plastic shell. It seems to be pretty tough material.

The range is mostly for looks anyway...not much cooking. That's what the microwave and gas grill are for. I'll be adding a bi-fold cover to the cooktop which doubles as a splatter guard just in case.

Have you thought about using a few Velcro pads to help hold in place?

Looks GREAT!

Wow that look great!!!

I too share the concern for the cleaning aspect because of the 'gritty' texture. Even though it's coated with something so it's easy to wipe down, goo will end up getting in the texture and not be easy to wipe off. Like you said though, if you don't cook much, this may not be an issue for you.

Have you considered mounting the "rock wall" to some sort of backer board and then hanging the backer board on the wall? Could design it in such a way that it would look exactly like it does now, and could remove easily like you said you wanted.... Added benefit, would be easier to clean crevices if you don't have to stoop and reach.

Wanna make mine??

Our range cover folds up and does a nice job of protecting the wall. I'm not terribly worried about cleaning the panels. I tried several cleaners on samples of the material and it seems to hold up fine. The texture isn't really "gritty" it's more like a hard plastic shell over the polyurethane foam. You can order free samples from the vendor.

The polyurethane foam material is already bonded to a denser core material on the back of the panel. I've already mounted the panels to the wall using six coarse thread drywall screws. The screws are countersunk into the panels and then filled with color matched putty.

Thanks for the clarifications... But you failed to address my final concern...

Latest update

Well foks we bought the Faux stone fireplace and all. And then I realized there are braces that are structured into the Cougar that blocks me from installing the fireplace. Oh well the Cougar looked great when we bought It and we are very happy either way. I do have a very nice Dimplex fireplace for sale on the forum if anyone is interested.
Pm me if interested.
God bless.

That looks great. I like our camper but some of the interior looks cheapy, something like that could dress it up nicely.
