couch to recliner upgrade

We have a 2018 Passport 2520 RL, thinking of upgrading from the couch to recliners. Will the left side recliner clear dinette when fully extended? Really enjoy this trailer, but the couch is one of the few weak links we have found. We have spent about 6 weeks in our trailer and already feel the couch starting to develop a low spot where we sit. My concern is weather the recliner on the dinette side will clear when extended. My only other concern is the condensation that develops between the mattress and bulkhead in cold weather. I assume there is little or no insulation between mattress and the nose of trailer, when the heat inside and cold outside collide a consideral amount of moisture can develop. We had some cold nights in upper midwest, and the condensation was bad enough that at first I thought we had a leak.Overall still very happy with our choice, but, what about the couch situation?

I can't address the recliner question, but the condensation at the head of the bed is common when cold weather camping. Sliding the mattress an inch or two away from the wall usually solves the problem. If it slides back a spacer like a piece of PVC pipe will keep it in place. In my Bullet I also insulated the top and the shared wall of the living space in the pass through with rigid foam glued in place between the exposed studs. Just be sure you Seal the edges so you don't get condensation between the foam and the paneling. It kept the mattress much warmer.

Condensation can also be a problem in any cabinets/closets on outside walls that are packed too tightly. Making sure nothing is pressed up against the outside wall or ceiling and tubs of calcium chloride (Damp Rid) from the dollar store in each cabinet/closet both help.

I have a 2018 Keystone Springdale 252RL. The first thing I did was sell the dual recliners because they blocked the counter space and cabinets on the left, as you look to the rear of the unit. We have similar floor plans, I believe. I put in a stand alone Scandinavian recliner, and it's great. I advise against the dual recliners. While they never interfered with the dinette, they did press hard against the side window to the point where it was impossible to raise and lower the shade. They also required constant moving out from the rear wall to recline. Putting in two slim stand alone recliners is the way I'd go.

Go to RecPro and search for a wall hugging unit. They were the only company that had a double less than 60” wide. Look at the descriptions for space needed. Glad to be rid of the tri fold couch.

I solved the condensation problem for the most part, bought a damp rid unit and it really makes a difference. We looked at the free standing slim design recliners, didn't really care for the styles. decided on the Recpro 58" duel reclining love seat. Should be here tomorrow, already have the jackknife couch out. Heading to Fla. in a couple weeks don't think we could've handled the jackknife all winter, we've only spent a little over 6 weeks in our trailer and the couch already had low crush points. I think it's the only complaint I have for our Passport. Thanks for the input guys and happy camping.

Please keep us updated on your love seat modification. My husband and I are looking to do the exact same thing in our Passport 2520 rl. I was concerned about the clearance with the dinette. We took our Passport to Florida this summer. There was a lot of rough interstate between Oklahoma and Florida. We inspected the camper when we returned home. Everything was still solid. Enjoy your camper and your trip!

We received our Recpro Charles wall hugger 58" duel love seat recliner today. It easily clears the dinette. They're just a little deeper than the jackknife couch and very comfortable. Very happy with this upgrade.

We replaced the reclining love seat with a up-scale electric, heated, massaging model found at a RV surplus store. 5 stars on that improvement.

The rear fold out sofa was also suffering from saggy uncomfortable cushions so this past summer I found some heavy duty foam and re-stuffed the bottom cushion. This is where I sit with my combination ottoman pounding on the keyboard at 5 in the morning. Time for coffee.
