G rated tires on 2015 Avalanche 331RE

Is any one running 235-85-16 tires. I have a Avalanche 331RE and would like to know if there are any clearance problems. Current tires are 235-80-16

Re: G rated tires on 2015 Avalanche 331RE

You probably should be running G range tires on that rig. There isn't much difference between the two sizes, about 1" in diameter more, so that will only add 1/2" to your height and 1/2" closer to whatever is above the tire. Sailun makes the G range tire now in both sizes, so if there is a clearance problem, that may be the way to go. To get the most benefit from these tires, it is best to have wheels that can handle the 110 psi that the tires need to give you the maximum capacity, but if not, they will work at the lower 80 psi pressure, or somewhere in between.

I have rims that will handle 110psi, so if it is only 1/2" I should be ok I will go and measure above the wheels. I need the G rated I have had 2 E rated tires shred and I am 600lbs under GVWR. Thanks for the reply

While you're measuring, remember to take a look at the clearance between the two tires. With 1/2" increase on each, that's a total of 1" for the two. You probably have enough clearance between the tires, but won't hurt to be sure before you make any final decisions......

Why not get the Sailun 235 80 16 G rated?

Re: G rated tires on 2015 Avalanche 331RE

I run the 235-85R16 on my Alpine. Our 5ers have the same GVWR and most likely have the same frame and axle combination. It's also likely that the clearances are the same or similar. I haven't had any problems with clearance. I initially stepped up to Carlisle LRF tires in that size. Lost one to a nail. I just bought Hartland LRG tires. Both the Hartland LRG and Carlisle LRF tires have a max psi rating of 95 psi which matches the rating on my wheels. I haven't heard much about the Hartland tires, so I guess I get to find out for myself if they're any good. Next year I plan to upgrade my wheels, if I have any problems with the Hartland I will be able to step up to a Sailun with 110 psi.

Re: G rated tires on 2015 Avalanche 331RE

Thanks for the reply on the Alpine that makes me confident to order 251-85-r16 tires, my wheels are rated for 110psi so I am looking forward to running a better tire.

A lot of the heavier Keystone fivers are fitted with rims rated at 3960# at 110 PSI. However, most of those rims are earmarked for the ST235/85R16F rated at 3960# at 95 PSI. They are not wide enough for the LT235/85R16G or ST235/85R16G which both have a single (approved) rim width size of 6.5".

Here is a link to a rim manufacturer that provides the correct size for the steel cased LRG tires. It's just a reference. I do not have any affiliation with the manufacturer.

The Goodyear 614RST tires came in got them mounted and on 5th wheel plenty of clearance. What a differnce in tires compared to the trailer king tires that came on the camper.
