Shade Screen on Rear Window

We have really have enjoyed looking out the six foot rear dinette window in our RD2020BWE..... that is, until the sun hits is on a hot day and it turns into a solar cooker... Even with the curtain pulled down it still cooks...

I looked at the "Carefree" pull out shade awnings but the price ($350) put me off... I found this Coolaroo 474799 Roller Shade, 6' X 6', Almond shade screen for $60 on Amazon and installed it... I will let you know if it blows off going down the road but it should help with the solar cooker...

Looks good and should work to keep you cooler...

I bought a roll of Solar Window Screen fabric, cut it to fit the large windows and put Velcro tabs in the corners and along the top of the window frames. When we set up camp on sunny days, I "Velcro the screens to the windows" and when we break camp, I fold them up and toss them into the passthrough.

I like the "rollup installation". Let us know how it holds up towing. You might want to put a couple of Velcro loops around the roll to keep it from "flapping in the breeze"...

I'd also tape some pipe insulation around the angles on that crank...

Thanks for posting this upgrade! Great idea! Keystone put the same (or very similar) window on the rear of my Crossfire. I've added this to my wish list. It does look like the crank should get restrained. Something like this should do the trick. Keep us posted!

In pic 2 it shows the interior shade in place plus all the ones I've seen like that are in addition to the inside shade vs replacing it.

I have the same window in our Hideout. We love the extra light but the heat does get up there. I may steal this idea! Thanks!

In reply and update..... the crank handle is removable... and, we did leave the blinds on inside. I like the Velcro shade screen idea and may do that to the windows to the left and right...

We took it for a trip this weekend and the shade is still attached and working....!
