Unless your "smokin deal" was for a rig as old as mine, 2004, your converter is probably 3 stage: charge, trickle (finish) and float (maintain). No need for an external charger. I would leave the switch on.

I agree with the others about using the built in charger, and not using a trickle charger.
If your deep cycle battery is low, a low amp trickle charger will most likely ruin that battery. Been there, done that !

You are so right, The batterie cables never were tightened up at the dealership. The kid just hand tightened the nuts. This will cause the batteries to never charge correctly and I would loose voltage. The rig was suppose to be winterized by the dealership and was never done correctly. All 4 holding tanks were full of water and the black tank had S@#*&t in it. I had to take it and dump it and re check the winterization. Put two more gallons of Antifreeze in it but before I did that I blew the lines out with air at 45psi. She is nice and protected now. Batteries are being charged by the converter pugged in at the house. Shore switch is in the on position. Thank you guys keep up friendly comments. Lol

I can't believe we're 23 posts deep and no one has warned him to check his tires! If they are the 2014 originals, they need to be replaced before you take the rig anywhere. Do a search on the dozens of posts about tires for some really helpful information.

My 2012 Cougar has the same problem. I finally replaced all the lights with LED. Not only does it solve the dimming issue, but the batteries last longer when dry camping. We do that a lot.
