Roadside Assist Plan?

Anybody subscribe to a roadside assistance plan? (Good Sam, Escapee, etc)

if so, which one, and is it worth it?

I have had Good Sam for many years. It just expired and I'm thinking of switching to Coach Net to see how they work. I've never actually needed assistance with the RV but have needed a tow a couple times for my car over the years. Most good plans cover all of your vehicles so rather than have one just for the cars I opt for one that covers everything including the RV.

Others have had traveling RV issues that required the roadside assistance and have varying insights. Perhaps others will chime in.

We have Good Sam roadside assistance. It is worth it when you actually need it. Consider it like car insurance-just an outflow until you need it. If you need it and do not have it you will surely pay more than a year worth of road service coverage. Cheap insurance just like smoke alarms, TPMS, propane and CO detectors.

I have CAA which is honoured by AAA when state side. Used twice, no issues. This way both the TV and the 5er are covered. I'm also covered under my auto insurance with a "Grand Touring " for both which also helps with accidents, lay overs etc.

I have Good Sam. Not impressed at all. One time in my 70 years I decide to use a road side assistance and it was a big pile of excrement. I had it 90% done by the time they got there. They looked like under the bridge druggies and had basically no tools.

Never had to use it but I have it with Geico for both our vehicles and the trailer.
Had Good Sam also just for the trailer but let it lapse when Marcus asked me not to buy from him...

I switched insurance companies from Progressive to Foremost (they cover my truck and the missus car). Insurance is very much cheaper with Foremost but it doesn't cover road side assistance like Progressive did so I picked up Good Sam just for peace of mind. If they don't show promptly when needed or fail to meet my expectations, I will have something to grumble about. I have never needed road side assistance and hope it never comes to that.

I have the best good Sam offers. I haven’t used it but I believe in getting the best you can for these type of policy’s. I have two 35’ boats I keep at my house I can be anywhere in the Chesapeake bay and I will be towed back to my pier if I have a big problem or any marina I choose along the way. I can even be on someone else’s boat and have the same coverage. It’s BOAT US unlimited towing and wasn’t a whole lot more then intermediate coverage that would only tow to the nearest marina which could be 100 miles away from my pier. And it did pay for itself a few times over the years with my sons boat.
I think when your on the side of the road somewhere facing a long tow back home in your rv ,the extra money for the best coverage would be well worth it and is the cost of one dinner in a nice restaurant once a year

We have the roadside assist for all our vehicles through Geico, our main company. Very cheap and couldn't be better. Check your vehicle insurance first.

I have had AAA for years, but with the RV purchase I got Good Sam. AAA does not include my trailers, (utility, boat, travel)...besides the times I've tried to use AAA it hasn't worked out that well - so I figured Good Sam can't be any worse. I additionally have roadside assistance on my car insurance policy (liberty mutual). I've found that between the two AAA (in the past) and liberty mutual...i've had almost everything covered financially. Its been the wait that's been the problem and for AAA the cost to get a reasonable tow distance.

Any "roadside assistance plan" is only as good as the sub-contractors they have that honor the plan "IN THE AREA WHERE YOU NEED HELP".....

There are countless posts on this and other forums where members have one or several "plans" and when they break down or have a flat, they call the toll free number and either are told there is no service available in the area or they're told that it will be several hours before anyone can respond. Posts relate being told someone is coming, then find the sub-contractor cancelled for some reason and the plan person can't locate another responder.

I've got a plan with State Farm (our vehicle insurance provider) and with Progressive (our trailer insurance provider)... That said, I really don't have a lot of faith that either of them will "be there when we really need help on the side of the road".... I hope I'm pleasantly surprised, but .....

I've always had good luck with CAA. That's because while I was raising my family I commuted in $h!# boxes.
When the trailer was broken down in Ohio Aug '19, although I wasn't thrilled with the method of tow, the young lad took me 30 miles to a campground that was close to where the parts were to be delivered. My brother used to drive tow truck and said that would have cost me dearly. He spent an hour shoring up the front axle, I followed behind with dash cam on in case I had to sue. LOL That tow would have cost me at least 10 yrs premium on CAA, so I'm happy with it.

Roadside assistance plans, no matter who you are paying, depends 100% on the folks available for that service and their willingness to go take care of it...Good Sam etc.

I carry at least 3 ( don't even know who they all are unless I pull out my folder). I've used them maybe 3 times in the last many years. I live in a more remote area, and, my 2 failures have always been in that obscure area. So, when abc roadside assistance calls Big Bob's tire store, the only one within 4 hours, and they say we're busy.....you think you're going to get something special? I've not seen it. That is why I carry jacks, cordless impact wrench etc. Don't mind paying for some "backup" but do not depend on them one whit.

We have AAA for the TV and GS for the TT. Had a flat a couple of weeks ago on a back road in rural NY and I could not break the lug nuts free, so called GS. It took over 4 hours for help to show; as John stated above, the first subcontractor cancelled after accepting and we weren't notified. The second subcontractor was great. However, we are considering investigating what AAA has to offer for TT assistance when the GS expires; we figure there will be more AAA-associated organizations than GS-associated.

We tried to use them in a populated town and they told us they didn't have anyone to come help. Waste of money if you ask me. They basically told us to call another company and then put in the invoice for reimbursement. What's the point if they don't actually come out to help

N&M, Welcome to the forum. To which company or service to you refer? Either quote a previous post or put the company or service in your comment and perhaps the name of the populated town (I think most towns are populated) would be helpful.

We have Coach-Net and have had to use it twice. Once we called to pick up our daughter when her car broke down on her way home. Once with the rv and tv they sent a rig big enough to tow both , we were stranded for a couple hours but they called several times to check on us and let us know they were having trouble finding a rig big enough to tow both, but when the driver showed up he was very knowledgeable and professional we ended up towing to his shop because it was a weekend and the dealership was closed till Monday. He was able to fix my truck and got us back on the road. He even called the next day to make sure we made it home. I’ve heard horror stories from many roadside assist plans but so far I am very pleased with Coach-Net
