OK to leave AC off?

Our trailer is at a campground in AZ and the daytime temps are still 105+.

We only use the trailer on weekends and in an effort to be thrifty (monthly add-on electric bill was $85) I was wondering if we could safely shut down the AC while we are not here. We currently turn it up to 90 before we leave, but I'm sure it still runs a lot during the day.

My concern is would the increased internal trailer temp impact refrigerator (on shore power) operation while we are away?

As an FYI, we do have 2 AC units, so I'm guessing at the very least we could shut down the bedroom unit.

As always, thanks for any help.

Do you have a Residential Refrigerator? I would think it would not survive in a closed up trailer in the Arizona sun.

Sorry, should have included that...no Dometic electric/propane. We keep it on 'auto' so runs on electric when we are hooked up. I've had issues in the past with propane only in high temps (shuts down) so not inclined to go that route.

I live a stone's throw from you. If I'm not using my TT and everything is off, I don't mind leaving it completely unpowered at whatever temperature Arizona throws at us. But if I need to have the refrigerator operational, I can't leave the AC off. I've discovered that if I leave the thermostat at around 90°, the temperature in the food section is too high to be safe, so it has to come down to at least a livable temperature. There's no happy medium.

It might be more economical to invest in one of those portable automobile refrigerators, leave your RV fridge off, bring your food to the RV already cold, and keep the portable unit plugged in inside the RV for a day or so until the RV fridge is up to speed and the food can be transferred.

I will add that due to the vagaries of the RV refrigerator mechanism, initial cooldown can sometimes be achieved quicker and more efficiently on propane than shore power, due to the propane burning hotter than the electric heating element.

I wouldn't mind turning the AC off but not with the fridge on. If I left it on I would leave the AC on.

Thanks guys. Think I will close the bedroom door and turn off that AC and continue running the primary unit set at 90. Few bucks is not worth jumping though hoops over.
