LP pigtail leak

After an almost complete season for me one of the LP pigtails is leaking at the regulator. It’s a Winntec model 6020 auto changeover.

I went to the hardware store a a found a Mr Heater replacement pigtail for RV regulator, but just my luck it didn’t fit. No adapter available.

So I turned the lever towards the good hose and full bottle. I disconnected the bad hose at the bottle.

Is this safe or will the valve try to open to the bad hose when the good side gets low?

BTW I’m in CO and it’s cold.

When that tank empties I would assume the valve will change over but not sure if need pressure in the line to do that or not. Bottom line is, if it does change over very little gas will escape but the LP lines will fill with air.
