Waxing RV and 303

Thought I would post an experience I had today that some may not have experienced ( I had not).

Getting ready to go to FL at the end of the month so I was waxing the trailer then following up with 303 over the last several days. I would wax a side, get sidetracked for few days then 303, repeat on the back and nose. Today I lacked a section on the upper half so buffed it and waxed. I did not leave for a day or two; I immediately grabbed the 303 and began to go over the recently waxed surface so I could get it done this morning. Bad idea. Apparently the wax has to cure before you hit it with 303. I knew something didn't feel right putting it on but when I got down and put it in the light you could see that the 303 was just "melting" the wax and making everywhere I rubbed dull and streaked. So, rubbed it all down thoroughly, got the buffer and hit it again with the wax. Made it look like it had prior to the 303. I'll be waiting a couple of days before I go with the 303 again.

Just wanted to share that in case anyone was going to try it or had not experienced it. I guess all the previous times I had waited long enough for the wax to cure (I'm sure I did - I'm not usually a ball of fire when waxing the trailer).

Danny maybe the wax you used has petroleum distillates in it. They have to "gas off" otherwise the 303 will react to them. I think I remember this from a seminar put on by Barry Meguiar many years ago at a car show.

I'll bet you're right Joe! Didn't even think about it. The wax I'm using is Meguiar's. Thanks!

Bob, here is a link. It's pretty handy for using on the trailer gelcoat.

^^^^Never heard of it before, thanks. Does anyone use gelcoat products designed for boats/yachts?

I use Meguiars 50 cleaner/wax for boats and RVs. Others use a variety of products. I use the 303 in conjunction with the Meguiars because it will last longer between waxes and is much easier to apply and remove.
