Surge protector?

Hi I want to buy a surge protector. My trailer is wired for 50 amps. My question is, if I run across a site that only has 30 amps how does it work with a 30 to 50 amp cord. Won't it read a dead leg?

I now have both a 30 and 50 surge protector since I used to have a TT with 30a.

The one hot leg from the 30A is split between the 2 hot legs in the 50A in the adapter. If it wasn't part of the AC service in the RV would not work. Don't get separate power cords, just get a 50A to 30A adapter/dogbone. Not the little cheap black biscuit looking things.

Don't skimp & just get the surge protector, spend the extra for the surge protector/ems, it protects against most every electrical issue not just surges.

Thanks sourdough, I've already got the dog bone. I'm getting a hard wired 50 amp EMS surge protector. I found a pretty good price on Amazon. I just didn't see how it would work with two legs and a ground. I just run my meter across it and I see that what you said is correct, that it splits in the dog bone.

I picked up a progressive industries ems-hw50c. Instalation seems pretty straight forward. It's just a contractor with electronic relays to pull in the coil.

I got the EMS installed . The #6 wires are a pain, but it's in and running even with the 50x15 dog bone. I can't run anything high draw, but with the fans on both ac units and the refrigerator plus another fan. It ran 5 amps one leg and 6amps on the other. That's about all I want to run on one 15amp circuit. The refrigerator was already cold and the two fans on high.
