Blocking off an A/C vent?

So during last weekend's shake down trip of the '15 31SQB, we noticed that the a/c vent in the head blows like mad. I'm assuming because it's the closest one to the A/C. I would like to slow down the amount of air coming out of that particular vent to increase the flow of air elsewhere. I thought of blocking off half of it with white duct tape, but wanted to get some suggestions from all y'all that are smarter than me. Thanks in advance.

You should be able to adjust the opening by turning the vent...the range is closed all the way shut to open to about an inch.

I wish my vents were that style. I have the style with angled slats where the whole thing spins around to direct the flow of air, but nothing to slow it down.

Maybe you can switch the vent cover. If not tape might work or maybe foil inside the vent.

On the other hand you have AC in the bathroom, I do not have heat or AC in mine...

Gotcha...you might be able to swap it out for the one that I posted above.

Switching out the vent seems to be the answer, so how do I remove the old one? Does it just pop out? I tried prying on it a little bit but it felt like it was going to break.

The part that turns will "pop out" but the remainder of the vent is "hard installed" in the ducting.

You can buy a replacement vent with baffles in it at CW (or most RV parts stores). There are available baffled vents available so that you only have to pop out the rotating part and pop in the baffled rotating part.

Remember that air "whistles, hisses or howls" when restricted, so be prepared for some increased noise at the bathroom vent. Otherwise, go for it, the very worst that could happen is some condensation forming where the reduced volume of air blows.

Same thing in my bathroom. I removed the cover and placed a few pieces of neatly cut black duct tape over 1/2 of the opening and replaced the cover.

So did your fix keep the head from being a meat locker and sending the cool air to the rest of the rig?

Some have posted that their ducts are poorly sealed. If that's the case, you may have additional cooling loss due to the increased pressure. Listening to a home improvement show on the radio once, and the HVAC expert advised against even closing vents in the home. He stated the increased system pressure results in more leaking from the duct work, negating any benefit.

Good point. I didn't think of that. I wonder though if it would really make that much of a difference in only 30 feet. If I'm only partially blocking off one vent, shouldn't the extra pressure take the path of least resistance? If I was blocking off multiple vents, then I could see leaks showing up. I'm rationalizing of course but my head is getting slap cold.

Get yourself a cool baseball cap or hoodie with appropriately provocative logo and enjoy the increased warmth and entertainment factor.

Couldn't you just hang a bucket under the vent and when it gets full just empty it out the window?

I don't think blocking off 1/2 of the bathroom vent will cause any problems with airflow elsewhere....if so why would they make adjustable vents?? Plus with an RV AC you're not talking about 10,000cfm moving thru the ducts. I would go for it if it is an acceptable mod to you.

I would go with removing whatever part you can and blocking the vent partially with the duct tape. I would probably go for 3/4 the vent. You should still have more than enough going into the head/latrine/john/bathroom/toilet . I sure wouldn't worry about velocity in an RV. I've always gone through adjusting those vents to get the air where I want it.
