Questions about washing and waxing..

I think I have it covered, but just wanted to run it by you all first!.

Anyways, my plan was to wash first with this:

http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...h-and-wax/2547

Then use this on the decals:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

Then use this on the rest:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=ATVPDKIKX0DER

So my questions are:

Is this the order on how you would do it? Or would you do the decals last?

Do you go back over the decals with the Nu-Finish, after you use the 303 on them? Are you really precise about applying the Nu-Finish or 303? Does it matter if there is some overlap onto the decals or the rest of the body?

Is it safe to use the gel gloss wash stuff on the roof, or is there a special roof wash product?

If you clean the roof, is it necessary to use roof sealer afterwards or do you just do that maybe once a year or so?

Would you use the gel gloss wash stuff on the diamond plate and windows and stuff as well?

Do you wash the part of the slide out that becomes exposed when you slide it out, or just leave it in and do those parts?

Sorry for all the newb questions. I did some searches already, which is how I found the products I listed. But I was still left wondering the other stuff, as us newbs often are.

I have used the 303 for the entire rv and it works great and last a long time. Plus it is much easier to apply than wax. Try it first to see.

I 2nd the 303 on everything. I did wax last year over everything and it took the better part of a day. This year I just did 303 on everything. I plan to use it about once a month or so.

I simply keep my rig clean (brush wash with dawn regularly) and apply a coat of NuFinish once per year on all fiberglass (cap several times per year). I have done it this way on many rigs for many years and never had a problem with graphics. While I agree 303 Protectant is a superior product (I use it on my vehicle interior vinyl), I can't see applying it to the entire exterior of the rv. That stuff is expensive.
Just my thought.

This brought to mind a question I've had...do those of you using 303 spray it on from the bottle or add it to a bucket of water and brush it on? I've been thinking of buying it in gallon jugs instead of the expensive spray bottles of which I have several and have been wondering if this approach would work or if it would be too watered down to be effective?

To answer the OP, I wash everything with a wash and then go back over everything with 303. I use Murphys Oil Soap on the roof which was recommended to me several years ago by the rubber roof mfgr, others use Dawn or similar products. Be careful whatever you use does NOT contain petrolium distilates. Last time I read the info on the rubber roofs they recommend NOT using a sealer or any "extras", just to keep it clean.

So just straight up regular dawn for the roof is safe?

I know we have some turtle wax zip wash or something in the garage, it's pretty old but does that stuff really go bad? So the gel gloss stuff is really not needed if using the 303 or nu finish or some combination thereof?

canesfan - I wouldn't recommend diluting 303 with water. To maximize the effectiveness of this product, use it "as is".

tpc - After a good cleaning of the RV, you can:
1) Use just 303 - on everything.
2) Use 303 on the decals and NuFinish on the rest.

I'm not sure if applying 303 over a wax or polish would add protection. Maybe an inquiry to the folks at Aerospace303 would help answer this.

Using Borax (20 Mule Team) in a mix with water and/or detergent (Dawn) would also be a good cleaner for the roof.

The directions on the 303 say to use it directly on any fiberglass. I also like it because of the UV protection it has.

Thanks everyone. One more thing, can I use the same brush for the roof as the sides? Or should the roof brush be a stiffer bristle?

I use a stiffer brush on the roof and a softer one on the sides.

Still wondering, do you bring out the slide and wash and wax it same as the rest of the exterior? I assume yes, but just wanted to see if there is anything I should be careful around when doing so. Also, would you wash and wax that first, and then then bring it in and do the outside last? Or just have it out and do the whole thing that way?

Sometimes I'll wash the slides, sometimes I don't. Nothing special about them except to put some 303 on all the seals once in awhile. 303 is your friend. The side with the slides is up against a fence and is a royal pain to wash with the slides in, when I open the slides they are about 2-3" from touching the fence. It's easier to wash that side if I pull it into the driveway, but then it's not level and I like to have it somewhat level to open the slides, so I have some issues to contend with.

Thanks for the help! Of course the day I want to do this is friday right before we leave and the weather seems like it might be uncooperative. Hopefully it only rains a little in the morning.

The weather is really irritating me this year lol. Seems to be a trend this year.

Enjoy your trip whether you get to wash it or not. I know it bothers me if I can't get it washed before I take it out, but it happens. Have fun, and I'm with you on the weather.
