Receiver and adapter
Hi all,
The new TV came with a 2 1/2 inch receiver and a 2 inch slip in adapter.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with these but this is my first one. The issue is slop in the fit and to compound the problem they have used an oblong (vertically) hole in the adapter instead of precision. With this loose fit compounding with the loose fit of the hitch into the adapter I worry about excessive wear not to mention noise and jerky motion within the connections.
What is, in your experience, the solution to this issue.
Thanks
Tinbender

My solution is to always use a 2.5" stinger. Available for virtually every configuration you'll need.

I would put your hitch into it and check again, it may not have movement when weight is applied such as hitch or trailer. If still is a problem you could put slims into the space but, I would take it to a hitch place and show them, see what the experts say. My drop hitch for pulling the boat is real loose but does not jerk the truck. The WDH is loose but after the the pin is in not really loose.

Thanks for the input,
KTMRACER,
Yes the obvious answer and a simple one, however the 2.5 inch change out piece for the ProPride would run me a little over 200 bucks delivered. Also the fact that the trailer could only (easily) be moved by a truck with a 2.5 receiver once the change was made.
As of now I am leaning toward weld bead and grind to fit on both pieces, should eliminate the wobble and be easy to do.
Thanks
Tinbender

Mine is loose like yours. Once the weight is on, it doesn't seem to move anymore than a 2 inch receiver. I have towed a work trailer for 3 years and there is little wear.

I got tired of trying to align the holes, in addition to too much play, so I shimmed and welded the 2 1/2" sleeve to my Equalizer 2" hitch. Much easier to hook up now.

I have thought about that many times, but I worry somehow....someway...as soon as I do it I'll need that damned 2 1/2'' receiver!

The adapter that came with my '12 F250 is just fine and has a round hole which aligns perfectly with both the hitch and the stinger... not a press fit but no undue slop either.
You might look around on the internet or at the local Ford dealer ;cause that would be a lot cheaper than a new 2 1/2" drop and better than a shim and weld that you'd have to grind out if you want to go to a larger trailer and need the 14K hitch.

I don't have any clunking with the 2" sleeve in my 2.5" receiver. One thing I did was put a couple wraps of duct tape around the sleeve because it would rattle when I didn't have a hitch installed. I always leave the sleeve and pin installed, because I'm afraid I will lose it and be up a Creek when I need to pull a trailer.

Ha... I thought the same about not having the adapter when I needed it so I leave it on the drop with the pin in it... makes a good handle for carrying it to and from the garage..

I kept the 2 1/2" receiver, I just tack welded the sleeve to the hitch bar. I bought another 2 1/2" to 2" sleeve to keep in the truck if I need it.
