Raptor 352 Refrigerator Question
Hello,
Just took my brand new Raptor 352 home, and I have a refrigerator question.
Our last trailer had a Dometic fridge that ran off propane or electric. Our trailer is equipped with a Haier residential refrigerator. This new Haier fridge seems to run on electric only, including off batteries through the onboard inverter.
My question is, how well does this work in reality? Are we going to kill our batteries driving three hours to a campsite while trying to keep our beer cold?
Out trailer has a Joboni solar charger, but if we drive at night, that won’t really help. How does a battery powered refrigerator actually work in a trailer?

As long as you're plugged into your tow vehicle the batteries are being charged... I've driven 8 hours straight with no problems

That’s true, as long as the charge line from the tow vehicle is working.
OP: what is the year and brand of your tow vehicle?

You can verify the charge line is active a couple of different ways. Easy way is to plug in to the truck, start it up. Then use a volt meter at the battery.

Sorry, I don’t understand. What exactly would I be looking for with the volt meter to prove the truck charge line is active?

You want to be sure your getting 13+ VDC to the battery(s) from the truck alternator.
If you look at your 7 way plug socket on the truck it might have a molded schematic of the pins. Positive and Negative are on opposite sides, and with the engine running you can test using a Volt/Ohm meter.
Since it’s easy to goof up and blow a fuse, you can do the same test at the trailer battery with the 7 way plugged in and engine running. I personally have a Tekonsha plug checker that shows me all the functions of the truck socket by just plugging it in, not too many people have one because it ain’t cheap, that’s why I’m telling you another way.

If you have access to 110 volts I would plug in and prechill the fridge for a couple days. Don't fill the fridge with hot food and drive away thinking all will be fine, it might but will have to run more going down the road.
I have a residential fridge as well and have only had one issue. At a fuel stop I heard beeping coming from the storage bay. Finally realized the DC to AC converter for the fridge was telling me it didn't have sufficient voltage. The battery cables were loose. Be sure you take good care of the batteries....water levels, tight connections, well charged frequently, etc. If you have an icemaker the plastic tubing is usually exposed and will need to be winterized in cold weather.

Haier refrigerator
Is there a on/off switch for the Haier refrigerator _ would like to turn it off while in storage BUT leave the shore line hooked up for coach lights _

If it's like mine you will need to turn off the inverter and the 120 volt breaker for the fridge in your power distribution center.
Although because we use the trailer every couple of weeks, I generally just leave the fridge on and stocked.

We have the same unit in our Raptor 432. We have driven from Virginia to Alaska with no problems.
