So of course in the comments you eventually run into "that guy". " Bolted some air bags in my 2019 PW and it pulls my 14K 5ver without issue." Let's see... Barely 1500 lb. payload, check. A shade over 10K tow capacity, check. Yea,bro, you're good to go.
Someone remind me of the branch hierarchy falling out of the stupid tree...
Ignoramus
Moron
Imbecile
Idiot
Whatever the order, that guy certainly falls into at least one.
The same you'll find on every forum!
Seems that the dealer ("it'll tow anything on our lot") or the manufacturer (ridiculous 14k max tow weight) has touted the Ford F150 as the ultimate tow beast with people everywhere hooking up to big long TTs & 5th wheels that are WAY more than that truck was ever built for, then here comes a Ford Raptor (built for off road) trying the same thing with 1/2 the payload of the F150.
Sorry, not trying to pick on Ford's or start a truck war, but read about any towable forum you'll find the majority of those asking advice/confirmation that their truck with XXXXXlbs of max tow weight can/will handle their rv with a dry weight of XXXXlbs are in a F150 with the biggest percentage arguing that they have plenty of truck, they "never know it's back there!".
Again, SORRY for the rant! Just my honest opinion after reading several forums!

Ha! Speaking of Raptors, I saw one coming back to town yesterday with a Solitude...SOLITUDE behind it! Looked like he had just jumped a 30' sand dune and hit on the rear wheels.....nope, just the nose of that Solitude buried in the bed of his truck. But, I have no doubt "he didn't know it was back there.

Yeah, I work with one of those "don't even know it's back there" guys. Tugs around a 12k 5ver with his 5 year old Ram 1500 5.7L.
Don't know what he's hearing, but that's not what his truck is telling me with the blue smoke that belches from his dual pipes on start up.

But hey, "those guys" are helping out the economy by keeping the transmission and driveline shops busy.

Well the problem is a diesel with even 3.42's will move that load pretty well, if they had 3.55's or 3.73's not an issue.

Now the CARRYING part is a different story! I often wonder how many 250/2500's are towing on overloaded tires???

Yes, in a previous life I towed our Copper Canyon at about 12,500#, with the 2001 Ram at 1,700# over GVWR, I was still within axle rating and well with in the tires.

What has happened recently in the payload wars, is the Payload of the TV is a much higher percentage of the total axle ratings, than it was on the 2001.

This is where people push payload on a SRW 350/3500 and they are already at 95%+ of total axle rating.

^^^^And this takes us right back to what we always say - ALL the numbers matter and have to be met. With all the sales hype now on trucks it's getting very easy for a novice to miss the mark a LOT when trying to just come in under the wire weight wise in one aspect or another.
