Heater/thermostat

I have been staying in one place for 3 months. heater has been turned on and off as needed. I had it on for about 4 days now and in the night my heater did not come on. I thought maybe I was out of propane but not the case. I turned heat off and on again and it came back on and ran for a couple of days. This has now happened twice. Any ideas?

It sounds like the only thing you did that caused it to run again was to "jiggle" the "off/on" switch on the thermostat. If that's the situation, then I'd think that switch is the problem. It may be a loose connection on the thermostat terminal screw or it may be a problem inside the thermostat. Without knowing whether you have a digital thermostat or a "manual mercury switch" model, it's anybody's best guess what might be wrong, but I'd zero in on that switch on the thermostat and the terminal screw attached to the wiring inside the thermostat.

I did not "jiggle" the switch but turned it off and on again. I will take it apart and look at connections. Thanks. also it is manual switch.

Um, to most of us who do our own maintenance, turning it on and off means the same thing as "jiggling" it.

^^^ What he said: If the contacts inside the switch aren't making contact, "jiggling" "moving it off then back on" or "thumping it with a finger" or "using a rubber hammer" (as one member likes to do with his stove) all serve the same purpose: Repositioning the contacts against each other.

So, moving it off then back on serves the same purpose as "jiggling"..... At least in "JRTJHese".......

Also, you still haven't indicated whether you've got a digital thermostat or a manual type, just that the "switch is manual".
