Axle bearings

I've got a 272 bhs bullet with twin #3500 pound axles. Does anyone know what size bearings I need? The local dealer won't know till they open it up and I just want to get a set for spares for a trip to Disney we are taking. I checked with the local NAPA and they just have a set that "might" fit he's not sure. Any help? Thanks

Check Dexter's website or give then a call after noting the info on the axle tag.

If the build tag is still on the axle pull it off and tape it to a piece of copy paper. From the tag you can call Dexter and give them the serial number of the axle. They can e-mail a build sheet of the axle. Everything you want to know is on it. That's what I did.

According to the Dexter site, all their 3500 lb axles use the same bearings.
Outer cup (race)- L44610
Outer cone(bearing)- L44649
Inner cup- L68111
Inner cone- L68149

The seal appears to be 1.72" ID X 2.565 OD, and the Dexter part number looks to be #010-019-00

If you get bearings, it would be wise to get the cup/race also, as that would need to be replaced in the event of a bearing failure. You should also have seals to go with the bearings, as they should never be reused. You don't have to get these from Dexter, as their price is quite high, especially for Chinese bearings. I replaced all the bearings and races on our rig with USA made Timkin's for much less than I would have paid Dexter, and got them online through Amazon. You can also get bearings at most auto parts stores, and those numbers are standard bearing numbers across all manufacturers. You may want to verify all these numbers, as there has been no mention about the brand of axle, and these are for the Dexter axle.

Good advice getting the USA Timken bearings. As a caution, though, I'm told Timken does have some bearings made in China. If USA's can't be found, Japanese bearings are better than the Chinese "Wearmax" bearings.

Yeah Amazon has Timkens for my 5200# axles. Made in China.
You may find an industrial supply company that will stock USA Timkens because some industrial customers won't accept Chinese.
I do have one set of Chinese O'Reilly's Auto Parts brand and their seal as a spare, packed in a Tupperware tub of grease.
And to reiterate...always change the bearing and race together from the same package. Never change just the bearing and not the race.

Both the Timken L44649 and L68149 bearings show up as China on Amazon.

I don't think Timkin is about to risk their reputation with low grade bearings, regardless of where they are made. Tires are another story, but the bearings are probably OK. All the bearings direct from Dexter are from China, and they generally seem to be good. I had a China bearing fail last year, but it was one I had replaced with one from an auto parts store, not one of the Dexter China bearings.

Did a little research and found these on ebay, and both sets are USA made. The photos show USA, the SET4 very clear in the photo, the SET17 is a little harder to see, but it for sure says USA.

I purchased Timkin SET4 off of Amazon one month ago and received USA parts.

Just acquired a preowned 2006 Cougar 304BHS. The bearings are fine, for now I just want to start and get the ball rolling and a couple sets in a can grease ready to go in. I have read thru the forum.The label on both axles is gone.
I could really us some help on his. I all I need is the part number for Timkins Bearings

From memory, I think someone on here said the axle info is stamped on the axle. Maybe in the center of the axle on top. Maybe.
Might have to wire brush the crud off to find it.
