Rain Day 3

We are into day 3 of rain and the skylight in our 33RES started dripping on the lower street leading edge edge. Bummer. Just about everytime we've been out it's rained and this is first time it's leaked. (At least where it's been seen).

Got out the trusty piece of Eternabond tape that's kept in the trailer tool box and as soon as it quits raining was going to see if I could seal it up.

Decided that while it was raining I'd pull the inside part of the skylight to see how bad if any damage had been done to the surrounding wood.

Wood looked good, but the leak is actually on the top edge of the skylight, not the side. Leaking between seal and rubber roof as the water is running down the flap of roofing.

Leak was in a completely different spot than where it appeared to be.

Now just gotta wait for the rain to stop.

Pictures

Well, I got the photos but couldn't quite figure out how to get them inserted properly. Some skills better than others.

Maybe moderator can help out?

Photo showing entire skylight. Spot marked with T is where actual leak is. (It's still raining) Single piece of tape is were water was dripping from frame.

Photo showing roof membrane points where I'm seeing water coming on top of the roof membrane leaking in.

I think there's two possibilities:

First, you have a leak in the DICOR sealant around the top part of the skylight. The roof is "crowned" so it's very likely that the leak would be on the "upper edge" of the mounting and water would run "downhill" to the lowest part before pooling and then running inside where you see it dripping into your trailer.

Second, you may have a cracked upper skylight dome. It may well be sealed properly, not leaking at the seal, but leaking through a crack where a screw caused a split in the plastic that ran to an unprotected part of the dome.

Check it carefully, and be sure the roof, sealant and dome are clean and dry before trying to put any EternaBond tape on the area. If there's the least bit of moisture, the tape won't stick properly.

Good Luck !!!

My had leaks all around the dome edges The water was dripping into the shower was afraid to stop it from the inside fearing water would ruin the sealing elsewhere. After the rain used the recommended rv self leveling roof caulk. Decided to caulk everything on the roof.

Repairs complete (for now)

Appeared to be a combination of both bad sealant and a cracked skylight.

Had just enough tape to cover both bubbles & or missing sealant and cover the cracked (actually holed) skylight.

Appears that a new skylight maybe in the near future. For now eternabond tape
