This Would Make Me Sick

Owner of a new RV barely got it off the dealership lot before disaster struck. Sometimes I think people should need to take a test drive/training course before hooking up for the first time. Then again, there is nothing that says this is a first time owner.

I would have to think that this had to be a first time owner. I would think that anyone that has towed any length of time knows to swing out and watch where your tires are tracking.....but then again

Barney,

I'm betting that the "EVIL Keystone" refuses to repair his trailer under warranty, even though it was "clearly within the one year" time frame.

But, on the other hand, it rolled over because he bought that darned "half ton lightweight" series trailer. If he'd have bought a 1 ton dually and a "heavy weight" trailer, it would have rode "through the snowbank" and not up "onto it" so it's the trailer's fault that it turned over. A "real trailer" wouldn't have been so light............. <sigh> LOL

Some folks aren't cut out for this sort of thing maybe? I know the guy had a nice laugh at the dealership when he asked if I ever owned an rv before or towed anything and I said no to both.

But I didn't tell him that my dad had towed boats and trailers for years, so I kinda had some knowledge of how to do it.

Here comes a lawsuit against the city/county for piling snow up alongside the road. The dealer will also be named in the suit for failing to warn the buyer about the snow.

I actually considered buying one from them and the lot is a disaster to get in and out of at the best of time. The snow was really insane and most streets were about 1/2 normal width [like one lane down the center of the street ] both sides had snow encroaching several feet into the road. The towns should have done a better job, but it was an unusual winter. I wonder it the dealership helped him at all at the time of the accident?

The real question is how far up on the banking did he drive it to make it flip over.

That is crazy for just going what 5 MPH at most.

Not the same but similiar. We just bought our Avalanche and was no more than half a mile from the Dealer when I was coming up on this red light. Went to hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. I reached for my brake controler to manually hit the trailer brakes and nothing. In an instant I had no truck or trailer brakes. I guess I paniced a little and did not even think about my emergency brakes so I just hit the horn and was able to squeeze between a car sitting at the light and a concrete island. How I missed this Toyota truck in the intersection is beyond me. I'm so glad he punched it before I t-boned him.
Scared the living daylights out of me, my wife and two kids. Once I got it stopped I noticed I had broken a brake line and the plug had worked out of the socket. To this day it still bothers me.

Is it wrong to laugh while looking at the picture and reading the article? Did that driver not feel the resistance of the snow pile and look back wondering whats going on?

Wow...sorry to see that but I also know exactly where that is, campers inn and they have a tight angle turning left out onto 44. I bet combined with the 7000 feet of snow we had this year made a nice big snow bank. Although its hard to believe he couldn't feel the trailer riding up on it.

When we picked up our new trailer on Monday, my hubby dropped me by our house while he went to park it. As he was driving off, he managed to scrape the trailer along one of our trees, taking many branches with it. Luckily, no real damage to the trailer, just a few scrapes. It was a good reminder that this new trailer requires a teensy bit more clearance than our old pop-up.

I just sent him this story to let him know that it could have been much, much worse. That guy in the story has to be sick to his stomach.

It's really a shame that a family's RV camping life starts out that way and all down to lack od experience and concentration. After 45 working years in auto dealerships it's amazing how many accidents happen within a few hundred feet of the dealership all down to not concentrating on driving

As we were known to comment in the automotive world I worked in many years back, a little bondo, a bit of paint and a good buff out - good as new.

Not sure about that dealership but the MA dealer our new fiver came from on Rt 5 (alongside I-91 in West Hatfield) has a real tight turn - and probably even worse last winter.

Many times a TT is totaled when layed over. It doesn't take much to tweak the frame or the sidewalls to the point that it isn't feasible to fix it.
