2nd trip

We got our second trip in of the year. Back to our favorite park outside of Fayetteville (Hog Valley). Oldest daughter went with us and stayed in one of HV cabins. WE had both girls and the new G-babys all together. Friday night was fine, but we didn't cold weather camp last year but one night. Saturday night we ran out of propane. It got pretty chilly around 3 o'clock AM! Since we only have a single tank, luckily I brought a spare I switched out once the sun was up. We now have a gauge on order!

Enjoy the pics!

Looks like a great time! The LP tanks seem to know when it's the middle of the night when they run out. Be thankful it wasn't raining or snowing.

Just curious if this might be the gauge you've ordered?
If so you'll notice the yellow (low) portion is just a little sliver compared to the green. From my experience with that gauge if you ever notice it in the yellow sliver the tank will be empty in about a minute, basically it will show full then straight to empty. Don't count on it being of much more benefit than without, you'll likely still be up at 3 am out of propane. Fortunately they're only $20+/-

Thanks everyone! We do love our pics! This is the gauge I'm getting it adjusts for outside temp!

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...Q1POP4BF&psc=1

If you're ever looking for a place near Fayetteville AR this is the place! it has a couple cabins, 3 big tree houses, pool, shelter house and multiple showers. We're actually staying in one of the treehouses when my daughter graduates with her masters next month.

I can't say for sure, so you'll need to do a "check before you trust" that gauge...

Here's what I mean: If you disconnect your propane tank and turn on the top valve, NOTHING FLOWS.... The safety valve prevents gas from going through the valve if nothing is connected.

When you connect that "level gauge", I think (not sure) that you defeat/bypass the safety valve.... If so, you may be putting your propane system at risk should you have a leak or a shutoff valve that fails.

I'm not saying it is unsafe, but check to see of you're bypassing the safety features before you just hook it up and think that "Kohree" has your family's safety as a priority....

For the LP guages I don't think they are very useful. If you think about it those guages are showing the pressure, not an accurate representation of the level. They work for a BBQ grill because you are standing there watching it. When the pressure drops enough to drop the needle then the tank is almost empty. Looking at the guage "before you go to bed" the guage may read near full with no flow but anly last a vary short time pulling enough gas to run the furnace.

There are other sensors that give a more accurate reading of the amount of fuel in the tank. I use Mopeka tank sensors and have been satisfied with the performance in my experience.

Curtis thanks for the pics and trip update. It's really good to see folks getting out and enjoying things again. I think it's uplifting for everyone and sort of ramps folks up waiting to get on the road.

As far as LP indicators, like the others have said I would be leery of that type of monitor. I've been taking care of some folks' LP tanks all winter since he was found with cancer. He has those things on his tanks. When I told him I was going to be doing it he said he had "monitors" on them to tell him when he was about out. Not really. They don't tell me anything and the only time I know when he has an empty tank is when I see red on the auto changeover regulator. The indicators will show yellow forever (almost in the yellow when freshly filled) and then apparently go into red at the same time the tank runs out and the regulator switches to red.

Lots of folks use the Mopeka sensors and monitor and have great success. I tried them but they never worked right for me but I think it was more to do with the type of tanks I had vs a system fault. If I was back in TX, and could find them, I think I have a brand new set of them somewhere in the barn. Here's a link. It's to a dual setup but I think they make a single one as well;

great pictures, thanks for sharing.

I weigh my tanks with one of these Luggage Scales

often just a quick hand weigh is enough to tell me if I'll make it through the night.

I have used the Mopeka system for about 4 years with no issues except to change the batteries. I use the app but not the inside unit (seems redundant to me).

The op may have easy access to the tank. Unfortunately I don't. The tanks are covered and not easy to get to. For mu money the Mopeaka sensors have been a blessing. I couldn't imagine removing my 30 lb tanks to weight them. Opening the app and I know if I have to refill one of the tanks. On our unit just getting to the changeover tank to look at it is a PIA. This my experience.

Danny, you might try ordering the Mopeka Sonic Grease https://mopeka.com/product/grease-pack/ and see if you get better results.

Thanks Marshall. I used that when I was trying to make them work. I think it was the tanks. Bought the trailer new but the bottoms of those tanks weren't the same and the rings were all bent up. The base ring was so low that the sensor wouldn't fit under the tank without it just resting on them so bought the little extension legs. It just never would work accurately. Mine were difficult to get to as well recessed behind a cowl in the front and back in a "hole" in the nose. On this one I just pop the door open and look at the regulator and changing them is a BREEZE thankfully!! The fellow I mentioned that I'm taking care of his propane decided to remove his 30lb. tanks and put in 40s - that's quite a bit of difference hoisting it up into that little hole for him and I was surprised. (That part really has no bearing on the topic at hand just came to mind and thought I would share in case anyone was thinking about doing something like that).

I also use the Mopeka tank sensors. They work great. They give you a quite accurate measure of the propane remaining in your tank.

Ditto, I also use the mopeka sensors and the app. It will even send me an alert when the tanks are low.

In the beginning I weighed the tanks, the sensors are much easier.
