Same with used RVs . 2017 / 2021s People asking 20 to 30k more than what they paid b/c the 2022s are MSRP @
20 to 30k more than what were in 17/21 . Ridiculous. My 2015 Hemi Ram 2500 4x4 MSRP @ 42K & got it for 37K with dealer incentives. Now the 2022s are going for 71k if you can find 1

Vehicles that are part of a buy back are tagged by VIN/title and carry the stigma of a buy back. This isn't apparently true in every state but I'm unsure of which ones do not. This obviously lowers the resale value of the vehicle but if they're able to correct the issue and resell them, would be buyers could score a pretty good deal on an otherwise great truck.

Thing is DMax the builder of the DuraMax engine is in Moraine, Ohio.
GM doesn't produce the engine, Dmax does and it's not in Flint, Michigan.
Kinda wonder what else the author got wrong.

But DMax is a joint venture between GM and Isuzu, so it is made by GM. In fact, GM casts the block and heads, which are the culprit in the recall issue.

GM Flint Engine Plant
Production of the 3.0L I6 LM2 turbodiesel Duramax engine takes place at the GM Flint Engine Plant in Flint, Michigan. Nov 17, 2021

Moraine, Ohio
The 6.6L Duramax L5P engine is manufactured at the GM Duramax plant in Moraine, Ohio, USA.

You were reading the top section concerning problems with the 3.0.

I believe it is a 60% GM and 40% Isuzu joint venture on the 6.6 only.

It's a 100% GM issue because it's in their product regardless of who does what percentage. No reason to deflect anything. Ford learned their lesson with that after the 6.0 and 6.4. Take responsibility, fix the issue and move on. That seems to be exactly what GM is doing with the voluntary buy back. I certainly give them credit for that.

They went a step farther and designed and produced there own engine instead of relying on Navistar. Nothing against Navistar but the 6.0 and 6.4 have had issues as most are aware. The Ford 6.7 seems to be on par with the old 7.3 as far as reliability and it makes more power than the competition.

Talked to a friend who is an engineer at the Tonawanda engine plant. He has a Chevy with the 6.6 diesel. He says many diesel engines are built in Tonawanda NY and have no problems. The Moraine, Ohio plant can't keep up with demand and Tonawanda is now doing the 6.6 gas and 6.6 diesel.
Interesting.

When I hear the term Hydro-Lock, my first thought is always a failed head gasket. I had that from a 1994 3.8L Mercury Sable. It was a known problem and we were reimbursed to the tune of a $4k rebate on a future vehicle. We basically had a 5 cylinder 2 water pump car. But a larger motor with such high compression would cause serious if not irreparable damage.

Well, apparently effective yesterday (4-26) GM cancelled their stop delivery order that was dealing with these hydrolocked trucks, and they are now saying the trucks involved are just fine with no issues (and their “Customers can be assured GM’s heavy duty pickups are covered by a 5 year/ 100,000 mile power train warranty”). I would hate to have been one of the owners who got the phone call about their truck being recalled, and are now told it’s no issue, don’t worry. Ouch.

Diesel engines used to be the most reliable, durable and longest lasting engines out there for trucks…unfortunately when they were completely redesigned for environmental standards they took something that was simple and made it super complicated..

Now you add the big three trying to lighten the trucks to increase gvwr ratings and you get lighter engine blocks and heads…finally they decided we need to be over 400 hp and 1000 ft lbs of torque and you see more problems happening.

My Ram 6.7 Ho has a recall on the injection pump…the complete injection system supposedly will be replaced ..Ford and Chevy each have their own problems with different components …it used to be that Diesel engines were bulletproof unless someone modified them and “turned them up”…now it’s the manufacturers doing it

I will still choose the Diesel engines over gas but they are a different thing completely these days

Well the recall on your 2020 Ram HO should be a relief not a cause for concern!
Ram and Cummins decided to follow Ford and use the Bosch 4.2 HPFP in the 2019 and 2020 Rams. Well Ram didn't like the number of warranty claims having to do with the Bosch 4.2. So they figured how to get the same performance and meet EPA emission standards using the tried and reliable Bosch 3.0 HPFP. Be happy the Ram decided to do the right thing and correct a bad decision, by not waiting foe your HPFP to fail before replacing with a more reliable.

I agree it’s a better pump..should have been on there in the first place…they have no parts available or timeframe to do the repair or any idea when it will be available for the recall as of the last time I spoke to my dealer

To illustrate my point on the engines being more complicated…just found this bulletin on the correct oil viscosity for 2019 and up 6.7. I’ve had five different Ram cummins and they all took 15-40 until this one I have now…have to use the more expensive 10-30 diesel oil ..they switched to hydraulic lifters to make the engines quieter https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/20...78698-9999.pdf
