Number one reason is fuel mileage number 2 reason I run over more curbs number 3 reason is DW calls dually the tank.

I got a good deal on the GMC. I had brought a 2020 Silverado 3500 diesel crew cab SRW but I had major problems with the Silverado , all the injectors had been replaced at least 4 times. The Silverado had been back to the dealership 5 times when I hired a lawyer. GM then went through the truck, replaced all the injectors plus other things. GM kept the truck a month at the dealer of there choice. Less than a hundred miles 3 injectors went bad. GM finally paid me , $12,500 to keep the truck. Funny thing was when the Silverado was hooked up to the camper I was 13ft 8in tall, 20in tires. I finally decided the best thing was to trade the truck, no dealer would even try to fix it. I took my code reader and cleared all the codes and started looking for a trade. I first went to a Silverado dealership that I had done business with before but couldn’t do a deal. I had looked at a 2021 GMC dealer online not far away but with the list price of $82,000.00 I knew I couldn’t afford that. A 2021 GMC Denali DRW, top of the line, the salesman didn’t mess around, took $13,000.00 plus only charged me $750 to install a B&W hitch, it was supposed to be half but the dealer ended up paying more. Plus they gave me more for my truck than the Silverado dealer did. It was a good deal for me. I said where do I sigh. DW didn’t want me to get the dually but DW doesn’t drive the truck pulling the camper. I won’t ever get another camper. I still would rather have a SRW, the SRW is better off road and when not pulling the ride is better. This truck has been trouble free so far, the best truck I have ever owned so far as all the options. I can’t see the hitch even with all the cameras, not good anyway but I have a fix for that

Number 1 is just a fact of life with four tires in the back. Number 2 you will learn to allow most room. 3. We’ll have her drive , she will understand.

There is no way DW will ever drive the truck pulling the camper. If I should die on a camping trip DW would call my son to pull the camper home

Working on that she does drive the truck without camper. If I should become incapacitated then I would call my youngest daughter to take mom home.

I have a SRW and my missus won't drive it. Period. Hitched, unhitched. She doesn't much care for trucks although she did drive my 2013 F150 once in awhile. If I dropped over dead while we were out camping I guess it wouldn't be my problem how the rig got home bwhahahaha

Contrary to some folks thoughts the highlighted sentence is reality. The bigger the truck, the bigger the trailer leaves many folks scared or unable to try to pull/tow/navigate them.

DWs best friend's husband here in FL suddenly had cancer discovered and it went downhill quick. He can no longer drive his truck; 3/4 ton SRW and she can't/won't because she is afraid of it. Real life, real situations. He pulled a 40' 5th wheel.

The reality is that a "dually" is not the end all be all for everyone and in fact can cause severe problems in the right situation. In the situation above they are having 2 of their friends familiar with towing fly in to drive them, the truck and trailer back N. A dually won't fix any of it.

As I mentioned before my go to would be youngest daughter, she drives a 2004 Ram 3500 DRW and tows two different horse trailers a two horse slant and a four horse slant with small living quarters.

Are we going to start the "bulldogging" again about this? If someone doesn't like a DRW they don't like it. They need not explain it repeatedly to you or anyone else and don't need someone haranguing them post after post.

Actually this will probably be the last truck I own as I’m a little to old to trade trucks and besides this GMC Denali is one very nice truck. I have a 100gal auxiliary tank that adds a little weight. Plus the way diesel fuel prices are going I may be pretend camping. DW doesn’t drive a truck and doesn’t plan any trips or plan the campsite, DW will go along with me anywhere I go besides I enjoy driving. Now if GMC makes a electric 3500 with Super Cruise then all bets are off, I’ll be first in line

Only relating to my own situation, wife will drive the truck, but not tow. Luckily my youngest daughter has horses and has the necessary skills to drive and tow a good size trailer.

If someone doesn’t like driving a DRW, get a trailer that fits within the payload of their single rear wheel.

As to my response to Spock123, just relating reality!
I could get 20 mpg with my old 2001 Ram 2500 5.9 CTD, with the 2016 Ram CTD HO 6.7 DRW in mixed driving 15 to 16 mpg.
I also clip a curb once in a while still.
As to the wife driving the DRW Happy Wife Happy Life.

If you are towing that very big trailer Id' go with a 450,4500... My brother has a gas chevy one ton with a 454. He said his set up is not enough for his 40 foot jayco...

I looked up and SS 454 truck spec and found 230 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 385 foot-pounds of torque at 1,600 rpm.

The specs on my Godzilla 7.3L gas: Power. 430 hp @ 5500 rpm.
Torque. 475 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm.

https://www.jayco.com/rvs/travel-tra...ngalow/40loft/
May not be the same trailer, but these specs are less than the race trailer we pull regularly with a 7.3L.

New gas truck engines are not diesel by any stretch, but they also don't compare to older generation engines either. Naturally it all depends on what you plan to pull. I prefer DRW for a heavy trailer or trailer with large sail. The drive axle weight rating on the 2022 F-350 is 9900 lbs.
