All in all, thanks for the information and the warnings. I should have come here first. Thanks again.

Congratulations on that new truck!! Being overloaded, even if you can't tell it while driving, was exhausting to me and ruined any trip I took. You have taken a BIG step in eliminating that issue and improved your towing experience as well I figure.

Oh, we don't "all" work at the Ford plant! Many do (have Fords) but I would have bought a Ram.....but I do like that 10 speed tranny.

I also upgraded to a 2022 F-450. While overkill for a 32BHS, it is a delightful towing experience!

If you got the XLT with the 8 way heated seats, the wife may soften up. Mine won't take the 2004 F-150. If she needs to go somewhere (works from the house) I have to leave the 2020 F-350. When the grandkids lived here, that was the after school retrieval vehicle of choice for her.

You'll like the truck. I picked the 7.3L gas and very happy with the performance, etc. That 10 speed is killer. Rolling into Albuquerque at 20,500 lbs hauling daughter's furniture I set the cruise at 65. Hit the first 4% down grade and at about 68 the truck took over downshifting to maintain speed. All I had to do was steer. Nice.

To back up what others said - until you hit the Cat scale, you're just guessing. I figured the race trailer at around 12,500 with the car and all the support equipment. I only missed short by about 1500 lbs.

Well..... I finally took ownership of the new rig. No photos towing but here's one at one of my remodels.

Specs-

2022 F350 DRW FX4
Lariat Ultimate
6.7L Diesel
4.10 gears

So far, she drives like a dream. Once the camper gets done with the warranty work, I'll give an update.

Thanks for all the advice. I'll be passing the offering plate for assistance with this payment.

Well if you come back with a " I can't even tell it's there" report, I for one will believe you. Nice looking truck!

Excellent. Waiting right now on a new 2022 Lariat Ultimate 7.3L 4x2 350 DRW. Been shipped, it's somewhere between the Kentucky plant and west Texas. Suspect it's in the UP rail head compound in Mesquite waiting on transport.

“I can’t even tell it’s there”.

We are 315 miles into a 6 day/750 mile/2 destination road trip. This thing tows like a dream. So much less of the bottoming-out syndrome coming off bridges or dips in the road. The 10 speed is so smooth. Accelerates uphill at 60mph like it’s nothing.

Now I just go to pay this stupid thing off. Thanks again guys.

We got the 2022 about 10 days ago. 300 mile round trip pull this last weekend with the 14,000lb trailer. No problems. Dash computer said average 6.5 MPG running 70 there and back. And it ain't flat out here. Lots of time in gear 8 and more than a couple of times watched the tach hit 5000+ RPM pulling up a hill.

Why the 7.3 vs the 6.7?

I like the 7.3. Also, I'm not a diesel fan. Not to mention its $10k cheaper. It's also 4x2 because I have no use for a 4x4. Which is why we had to order it - everybody apparently wants a diesel 4x4 so that's about all that's on the lots.

You state towing a 14k 5er, but your signature shows a lite TT. You got the TV updated, not your trailer.
Well 6.5 not great fuel mileage, and a 4x2 DRW, don’t park on wet grass!
Many don’t like diesel, and that is their choice, but even with a 50 gallon tank You only have 325 miles to empty.

Or sand or pretty much anything not pavement. I can’t tell you how many times I had to put my dually in 4x4 to get out of a makeshift parking lot at an event…fairgrounds, race tracks, you name it. I’m sure I could have worked it out without locking it in, but would have taken a bit more effort, tore up the area a little, and threw mud all over the truck. And that was empty, would never happen with the trailer behind.

My fault for being unclear - no 5er here. Only bumper pull. The truck is equipped for pulling a gooseneck or a 5er hitch but I don't have a need for it right now. I put the Ford 5th wheel prep in the order because it's at least $500 cheaper to have the factory do it vs adding it later.

I've never had an issue with 4x2 in any weather condition. Never owned, needed or had a desire for a 4x4 truck. If I wanted a 4x4 vehicle I'd go buy an old CJ5. The fuel in the tank lasts longer than any bladder, so the miles to empty isn't an issue either LOL. I can run to any of the "local" race tracks on the tank. The farthest we'd pull to is Ardmore OK and that's 250 miles one way. I also put 3.73 gear in it vs the 4.10s because I don't need the extra gearing and I drive the truck a lot more without a trailer than with.

Now I am lost, you mentioned in the post above, a 300 mile trip pulling the 14,000# trailer, just a large TT?

Did you have to wait 1000 miles before any towing? My truck (Ram diesel) had a break in period then an oil change and I was good to go.

I would think a high rpm gas engine would need a break in but I could be wrong

Most modern engines don't require a "break in" period and are shipped with the standard oil. Most manufacturers do require/recommend a "break in" procedure for the drivetrain to allow the differential gears to lash in before towing.
