Toilet Rough Out - modify from 8” to 10 “
Hello,
I have a Keystone Bullet 243 BHS. I wanted to upgrade the toilet from the original Dometic 300. The issue I’ve run into is the rough out is 8” and it seems that all the upgraded toilets are designed for a 10” rough out.
Has anyone accomplished a modification to deal with the 8” rough out?
Thanks
Roy

I have a Bullet 290BHS with the same issue. I would like to upgrade as well. Searching for answers myself.

This has come up very recently and someone posted links to a plastic rough out intended to move the spot. Guess you would have to cut another hole and glue it to the down pipe going into your tank. Search function might help... some folks suggested cutting the wall but that possible fix doesn't sound like a great idea to me. The gizmo is called an OFFSET TOILET FLANGE:

Search on "toilet" using the advanced search. You will need to fix the floor behind the new flange to fill in the hole but I think one of these could get you out a couple inches.

Depending on your setup, your only choice may be to modify the wall. My toilet floor flange threads directly onto the black tank. Since the tank is in a fixed position, and the tank has a threaded collar that the flange screws onto, there is no way to move the toilet, so that leaves moving the wall (also not an option for me). So my replacement toilet was another 300 model.

Excellent point. My flange connects to a black pipe going down and to the left a bit so I am pretty sure I could plumb in one of those offset flanges if needed. I put a 320 in my camper which requires a bit more room than the 310 (if my poor memory serves) and had adequate wall clearance. I also put a shut off valve on the pex to ensure emergency toilet repair would not require water shut off as most repairs I do are at a camp site it seems.

Is turning the toilet at an angle an option?

Has anyone found another toilet that would fit with the rough out clearance being to close for the 310 or 320? Any other brand? Reviews?

What kind of toilet do you have now? Looks like you've got a '21 Bullet; is it a Thetford? Are you saying the cutout for the sewer pipe/flange is too close for the 310 or 320?

Is there something wrong with the 300 - what is the objective of the replacement? I ask because there are other toilets out there, and don't know what will fit, but if you are wanting to accomplish something specific that would be good to know.

I have heard all the horror stories of the 300. If it were to happen to us I don't want to use the same thing with the possibility of it happening again. Also looking for something a little more comfortable.

I think most would agree with you on the bolded statement... That said, "it" only happens to less than 10% of the 300 toilet models, so you've got a 90% chance that you'll never have an issue with your Dometi 300 toilet.
I'd be much more concerned with the OEM tires than with the OEM toilet !!!!!

The seal issue with a small percentage of the 300 toilets is something that is either there or it isn’t. It doesn’t develop over time. I had one of the bad seals and I took it apart and actually fixed the issue while I was waiting for my replacement toilet, it’s really a pretty simple fix if the issue is present.
I can’t help you with comfort though, sorry. I am spoiled by my Elongated bowl comfort height toilet at home, but can live with the Dometic for the 45-50 nights a year we use it.
