Yeah I know...but I think George is agreeing with me. Shortage on distilled water? Why? Shredded hash browns? Now there, THERE is a reason that there might be a shortage of that scrumptious, mouthwatering, delicacy!

Happy Easter to all!! Hope everyone has a great Sunday and Monday!

Worst Easter weekend gas price seen - some casino in OK with a $4.06 price when everyone else was around $3.86. Not gonna go sit at those tables.

Just completed a round trip from NH to FL. What a difference a month can make. For those that haven't hit the road yet, buckle up

Where we found diesel in the "$4.95-$5.09 range" for most of the trip. Once we hit NE on the return it is not $6.00+ The highest was $6.59 and this is NOT the truck stop pricing where you have to use a fuel program card to get standard pricing.

This is going to wreak havoc with the pricing of many things if it continues!

I rebuild/sell vintage Japanese motorcycle carburetors for a living. Got this note from one of my suppliers yesterday:

Due to the current state of rapid inflation, compounded by the rising costs of manufacturing, and distribution, we will be implementing a 20% increase on ALL products across the board.

This increase will go into effect;
Monday, May 9th 2022.

Yup, expect more small businesses to disappear, especially mom & pop resturants. The profit margins in the resturant buisness is typically razor thin. Between labor costs & availability and food costs, it becomes unsustainable.

The DW and I just got back from 5 days in Hocking Hills, Ohio for our anniversary camping trip. Paid $5.259 for diesel in Ohio. Made the trip on a tank and refilled going out to dinner on day two. Took $180 to fill the rig. Splendid.

My A/C man came by today to add 4 pounds of Freon to the system. He apologized for the cost of the Freon. I forgot what it cost, maybe $140 a pound.
Someone on a financial TV channel this morning said prepare for even higher diesel prices.
Don't know how much more of this we can handle.
It's a little late in the season to plant collard greens. Maybe set a trotline.

Richland WA... $4.49 regular (and WA has high gas taxes), $2.99 propane... Surprised at low propane price!

Diesel Prices

I look at it this way, people would have never bought pricey diesel trucks and big fifth wheels if the couldn't afforded them. So I doubt diesel fuel prices will greatly impact that segment of the RVing population. It's probably those who are starting out with young families and tighter budgets who will feel the pain. The gas/diesel prices along with higher grocery prices will squeeze the vacation budgets and most likely decrease attendance at campgrounds. I'm happy with my F150 and 26' TT. I can average 15 mpg on a trip...not great, but doable for the Mrs. and I.

My plan with the high diesel prices is. On long trips 1000 plus miles from home is to stay longer and spend more time in one place. Take short trips 100 miles from home more often. If fuel prices where this high I would not have bought my truck and RV I would have bought a few acres to grow food instead. Or put it in the market..
Well maybe having the RV is not so bad.

Haven’t been using Sams Club, Walmart, or Costco for several years because they don’t sell top tier gas. Newer cars are too sensitive with injectors and saw many problems from cheap gas when i worked ata car dealership. Diesel doesn’t have a top tier category that I’m aware of, so I’ll buy whatever is cheapest and cross my fingers that it doesn’t have water in it. As for the math, I always heard the further away you get from the refineries, the more expensive the fuel will be, can’t say I’ve noticed that to be the case with the erratic pricing out there.

FYI, COSTCO is the only USA licensed "top tier diesel" supplier: https://www.toptiergas.com/diesel-licensed-brands/

COSTCO is one of 51 USA licensed "top tier gasoline" suppliers:
https://www.toptiergas.com/licensed-brands/

WalMart/Sams are not on the list.

Good to know. Dropped my membership because the closest one is over 50 miles away and I don’t go to that area as often as I used to, but if things change……..

I questioned in my own mind whether "top tier diesel" was a reality or not, so when we were in Louisiana and COSTCO opened in Baton Rouge, I bought only COSTCO diesel for about 10K miles. When I changed the fuel filters, there was a noticeable difference in filter element color. While that's about as "scientific a test" as licking your finger to determine wind velocity, it was enough of a "descriptive difference" that it convinced me to use COSTCO diesel when it's available. It's usually cheaper as well, so a double plus....

I was not aware until today, that COSTCO is the only USA licensed top tier diesel brand.

Interesting. Have never heard of top tier diesel. I typically use Valero for diesel since there is one by the house. Use truck stops with the fleet card when traveling with the RV. The filter definitely is a surprise to see when you change them. I wonder how Costco would compare.

Worked in the oil/gas industry 30+ years & FYI refineries do not make fuel any differently for Walmarts or other discount retailers than your favorite major oil companies fuel. The fuel you buy at whatever major company is your favorite is 99.99% of the time the very same fuel as across the street QT, Walmart or Sam's, the very same truck likely unloaded at your favorite & pulled across the street to finish his load. Depending on what refiner is nearby has the best price today or another refiner is in the area has the best price tomorrow thats what will be hauled to the stations. Now depending on the area or the station there may be up to 10% ethanol, now up to 15%, which the refineries have nothing to with & WILL degrade even the best of the "top tier" fuels, farmers need the $$$. With the ethanol you can expect a 10%, now 15%, decrease in performance & fuel mileage.

As a former gasoline blender, you are correct. Mostly.
Only thing you didn't mention is the splash blending done when the driver swipes his card at the loading rack which usually add the additive package (Techron for example) into the truck and the "generic" gas is loaded on top and mixed during the ride to the stations. We were an indy company and shipped fuel to tank storage/loading facilities for sale.

I blended in SoCal and the only company we did "special blends" for was Exxon, who had certain specs for their base fuel prior to additives.
