gray/black water caps

Our caps on our grey/black tanks seem really difficult to screw on and off. I realize they need to be tight to prevent leakage but any suggestions as to how to make them easier to tighten/untighten? We thought about WD 40 or something similar.

I had the plastic rv cap wrench, not the slip joint pliers (Chanel lock pliers) & the sewer cap wrench both came in very handy.

This thing fits every conceivable type sewer cap you may encounter.

I thought you were just supposed to let them dangle as you drove down the road?

You can always tell the folks that do that AND forget to close the gate valve on the tank. They leave a trail on the road at the first right hand turn they take.

My cap is difficult to get off as well unless I want to get down on my hand/knees at the dump station. I DO NOT get on my hands/knees at the dump station.

A little fine sand paper to open the notches up just a bit will help get the cap on/off easier. Go slow. Too much and you'll need a new cap.

I use the Camco wrenches as well. I've had a bunch of neck surgeries that have left me with nerve damage. How well my hands work on a given day can vary and on bad days the wrenches are a blessing.on bad days. I wouldn't make adjustments to a new cap. They will loosen some with use and getting a brand new cap to fit "just right" could end up with the need to prematurely replace it.

I have 2 of these (1 for the gray/black tank combo and 1 for the kitchen gray tank) because my grip is not what it used to be.

I've been wary of using lubes on plastics since an incident 45 years ago when I lubed a cheap plastic button with silicone spray instead of WD40 because I thought the solvents in the WD40 would attack the material. The opposite was true -- the silicone melted and gummed it shut, and the WD40 (on other units) did the trick.

So now I don't even try to guess. I use alternative lubes. My favorite for tank caps is a solid bar of canning paraffin, rubbed over the contact spots.

If you wanted lube it use plumbers grease not Vaseline but I wouldn't recommend it. The problem with grease is it will attract dirt. If you grease up the cap it will be on the outlet pipe and transfer to the hose when connected. When the cap is hanging wind blown sand and dirt will adhear. When the hose is disconnected and drug across the ground same thing will happen.
