Jumping slideout and zep 45

Just want to thank everyone for the post about using zep 45 on the jumping slideout problem. Ordered some from Amazon 2 cans used it on my slide out and it's working as good if not better than it did new. Had to maneuver the slide in an out a few times. Thank you very much, it solved my problem.

I know the ZEP works but also check the slide cables if you hear a 'jingling' noise or squeal. The cable, chain and rollers do not use any lube. The BAL website and instruction manual will give you what kind of cable slack is acceptable. Adjustment as a DIYer is very easy though the first couple will put you on a steep learning curve and may take an hour or so. You need 3 tools - a 3/8" and a 7/16" wrench and a pair of pliers or , better, Vise Grips. The wrenches I use are the ratcheting GearWrenches

You most likely do not have rollers under any slide as Keystone started using a slide bar instead, evidently as a cost reduction. Ours has rollers under the bedroom side only with the other three slides having the slide bars. A note about those slide bars - they occasionally do collapse/fail though I believe that has been corrected after 2015.

Add on rollers are often the LCI J-36 service rollers. They are a bit taller then the slide bars. I have a box full of them but have been reluctant to give them a try with that extra 3/8-1/2 inch height.

ZEP lube may be great stuff but way over priced. I found CRC industrial power lube with PTFE has the same basic ingredients and a bunch less money and works very well on our 3 rollerless slides: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good info gents, we have a new to us 15 Sprinter with this exact issue, main slide jerks something awful coming in or out. When spraying the bottom how much of the bottom of the slide do you cover?

Thanks,

G

Jerky slides

Our 2017 Sprinter has same issues with kitchen and dining slides. Looked at you tube and saw how to fix with rollers from eithier LCI or BAL. I ordered some rollers to install, does not look to difficult at this point. I might try some sort of teflon type lube first on the wear bars, if that works then I will return the rollers.

Quick follow up.... Used the ZEP 45 it worked great. I will always carry a can with us in the 5th wheel. Sent the rollers back.

Slides are sticking, it's just that simple. Wash, wax the sides of your slides. Clean the rubber seals, and lube any tracks you have access to. Mine are more prone to be "jerkey" when the weather is cold and work very smooth when weather is warm. If the camper has been sitting unused, with either the slides open or closed, when the slides move again, the rubber is stiff and need to soften up (Just like a car tire that's been sitting and has a flat spot).

A low battery may cause jerkiness, but I've found (in the past), when I had a low battery, mine simply do not work. They either move or they don't.
