Same here, but I have 2 of them that can run in parallel. The vast majority of the time I can get by on just one of them, even with the AC running.

Then you can run a 2000 or 2200 for your AC. I use my Honda 2000 on idle mode to start and run my 15 k unit with the Micro air and it hasn't "blown up" yet.

Let's hope you don't bring one of those "rental center" generators to the RV campsite. Typically, "contractor grade" generators are found at those rental centers, and your campsite neighbors probably won't be happy with the noise especially if run at night while they're trying to sleep!

Have you considered the MicroAire Easy Start for your AC?
Reduces starting power needs for your AC . Can run a 15000 on a 2000 Honda. Look it up online.

Keep in mind that the Soft-Start module does not change the running amperage/wattage consumption of your air conditioning system... It only eliminates the heavy Spike on Startup that is required to lock the rotor on the compressor...
It takes what would normally be about a 48 to 52 amp Spike and drops it to something tolerable so that you can run not only your air conditioner, but other accessories on the same generator...

That would be true except that many 5500 watt generators only have a 20 amp breaker on the 110 volt RV and 120/240 outlets...
Best thing to do is shop around, take a good look at any generator, do not buy unseen...

Add a easy start to the AC and you will have no problems with start up current. Honda 2200 should do it easy.

Thats what I thought too. I have a 3,000 watt Firman and there were times it struggled to get going at start up so I don't thing a 2,000 can do it.

It depends if the AC is a 15,000 or a 13,500. Also as I said, add the easy start module to the AC and the 2,000 can do it just fine.

If the 13.5 KBTU air conditioner requires 2750 watts to lock the rotor, and 1250 watts to run, you're not leaving yourself much room... Many of these so-called 3000 watt generators are only that at peak... That means they will only pull that load for about 5 to 10 seconds... That's their Surge watt rating, and they're only reliable at supplying that wattage when they're in perfect shape...
I have a microair 364... It does work... But I wouldn't trust a generator that runs less than 3500 run-time Watts... It's just not a good idea to max out your generator, if it won't last very long if you do.. You should have twice the runtime wattage as you're going to use all the time...
Like I said, keep in mind that your refrigerator and other appliances are also running on that AC unless you switch them to propane...

I tried successively larger generators till got to a champion 3500 which runs the electric.on a 2910 bh Keystone anything smaller won't do it.

That's because wattage / amperage equals voltage...
Conversely, wattage / voltage equals amperage...
3500 watts ÷120 volts = 29.1 amps
That's right at the ragged edge of being able to run everything in a 30-amp service trailer... I guarantee you, after a few uses, if you don't do proper maintenance, you're going to come up short...
Yes, a minimum 3500 watt run time will get you by... It will also wear out that generator a lot faster... Because it's running full load...

My two cents..
I used 2 Champion 2000 Generators, paralleled together, and had my Progressive EMS monitor tell me I had low voltage when running my 15,000 btu A/C and a few small accessories. The wattage never doubles when paralleling 2 generators, and Champion states that you should never exceed 3000 watts with that configuration.
When one of generators gave me trouble, I got a Predator 3500. That unit is awesome. I run my fridge and A/C on econo-mode, and once started, the generator just comes off an idle. The Powerhouse 3500 is the same unit. I was cautiously optimistic, and very pleasantly surprised. It is amazingly quiet.
My only warning is carefully break them in, change oil after 2, 8, and 25 hours. The Chinese don't clean out the case well during manufacturing.
Anybody wanna buy two Champion 2000s with low hours??

My 2 cents. I have ran mine on my 2000 watt Honda, However when the wife forgets and wants to warm her coffee in microwave. Bam it's off. Warm a bagel bam it's off. Also it takes more to start a/c after it just shuts off so you may have to wait till pressures equalize before it will restart. I broke down and bought a new 3000 watt Honda and all problems are gone. I also don't like running engines at their max which the 2000 will be doing. Good Luck.

That's why I bought a pair of the Honda's that can be coupled together (even better now as they are 2200 Watts each). The other things you can do are install a soft start kit in the A/C to stop the initial inrush current, and also a hybrid inverter which can use the battery bank to augment the generator for a second or two. Better is to do both. My old TT was hooked up to a 20A 120V GFCI and we stayed in there with the A/C on during some construction activity. I think the reason it worked was that the A/C was a 13,500 BTU unit not 15,000.

One thing to keep in mind is that most generators need to be set up for around 63 Hz during no load "idle", and check to make sure they're at 60 hertz, or a little bit over, when under load...
