CAT scales

The other day I went to have my truck and camper weighted. My truck is a 2015 F350 with a curb weight of 7462. My Cougar Xlite 28RDB states a weight of 7699, carrying capacity 2301, hitch 1415. CAT scales has steer axle 10,620. Trailer axle 7320. Gross weight 17,940. Gross weight minus my truck curb weight is 10,478. Camper shipping weight and carrying capacity comes to 10,000. How does the hitch weight figure in. Am I over loaded by 478 lbs.

Maybe I'm missing something but your drive axle weight of your F350 is not listed. Is the weight of the tow vehicle with pin weight coming in at 10,620? If that's the case (which i think it is), your "used" payload would be around 3158. You'd have to get your truck weighed unhooked but loaded with your camping cargo and people to determine how much is pin weight vs TV cargo. Your 1 ton F350 is (I assume) has a higher payload capacity than 3158. If 600 lbs is assumed for 2 people and cargo in the TV, your pin weight would be right around 2558. If you're loaded to the max with your trailer (10,000), you're right at 25% on the pin. If lighter with the trailer's GVW, your pin will be heavier.

Remember, hitch weight from the manufacturer is listed dry at the pin. If your 5er is front loaded heavy, your pin weight can double very easily. 1400 lbs grows to 2500 lbs in no time.

CAT scales has steer axle 10,620. Trailer axle 7,320. Gross weight 17,940. For the drive axle it said zero. So do I subtract the hitch weight from the trailer weight. 10,478 - 1,415 and that will get me close to what is riding on the camper axles. I know if its loaded more to the front of camper there will be more on hitch pin. I'm just wanting to make sure my axles aren't over loaded

First, check the FMVSS sticker in the door jamb. That will give you your axle limits. Then look for the white/yellow tire/payload sticker, it will show you how much you can safely carry. Is your truck a SRW or DRW? You are probably close to 5200-5300 on the front and the rest of the rear axle. The CAT tag, if it's a true CAT scale should have front/rear/trailer then gross combined. Assuming, even with SRW on your 3500, you're probably in the 8000 pound rating range on the rear axle. The stickers will really help you with your weights.

Also, on the stickers on your trailer, the will list the GVWR of the trailer. Figure 20-25% of that weight as pin weight.

If the drive axle read zero then it sounds like you were not positioned on the scale's platforms correctly. You should have had the trucks front axle an one platform, rear axle on another and the trailer axles on the third giving three different weights. There are some good threads on how to do this on this forum. Here is one:

Also, your front axle weight won't increase very much from stock. My 2015 2500 diesel 4x4 front axle increased 40 pounds from empty to having my 5r connected (it too was empty).

You should go back to the scale and get the correct weights. Guessing is not going to help. Although I will make a guess since I have weights 100s of vehicles. You had both tow vehicle axles on the same scale. You should stop on the scale with just the tow vehicles front(steering) axle on the scale, then rear(drive) axle only. then add those two. than trailer axles each or all together. After all that do it again without the trailer.

Ken and Matt are correct. Your 350 won't weight 10,600 on the steer if the whole third Marine Division rode in your trailer.
