I pull up next to the pedestal where I think I am OK. Get out of the truck and see if the slide will open as I am currently situated and if not, pull up a bit with my window open and my missus yelling when to stop. Carrying stuff to measure seems overkill if you have a good missus to keep you straight!

In case of emergency
I can't think of a specific scenario, but if you ever had an emergency and needed to cut the power to your unit you'd want to be able to quickly get access to flip the breaker.

You are exactly right, never thought of that. I guess I was depending on the EMS to much.
