Smile New Tow Vehicle

Well, I finally did it. My Ram 2500 was right at the limits towing my Cougar 327RLK, esp. when both were loaded up. So I went through all the Ram 3500's available within 150 miles and found my new 2020 Ram 3500 CrewCab LB 6.7L Diesel with Aisin Auto transmission. The only thing I might have been interested in that this one didn't have was the Towing Technology Package that would have added extendable mirrors and mirror mounted cameras to show up on the 12" screen inside, with the "stitched-together" 3D top view. Hooked it up and towed yesterday and the mirrors I have work great.

It has the Safety Group with adaptive cruise and steering, Laramie Level 2 trim, Power deployable running boards, 12" U-Connect Screen with tailgate and cargo cameras, Trailer TPMS, Auto-leveling rear axle, and 5th-wheel prep package that I had them put a Rail Adapter on so I could drop my Andersen Ultimate hitch in. I'm a very happy camper these days!

Congrats on the new truck! Careful though, with all that in the truck DW may be coming out to drag you out of it.

Got the 12.3K GVWR, which gives a max payload of 4240# and towing capacity of 20,240#. My 327RLK is light for a 37 footer with 12,500# max and 2000# pin weight, so shouldn't have any problems with it.

Pics are attached!

Better get a navigator for that big screen/display. I have to have DW find the right "spot" to touch because there are so dang may icons etc. on there. And when the screen change...here we go again. Trying to drive and use it can be problematic. On the other hand the nav on that screen is really nice. Have fun.

LOL, we have had our new to us 2016 for over a year and a half and still learning things. One I just noticed was if I used the keyless entry to open the drivers door, then walk around to the passenger side to touch the Handle to unlock the tailgate, but don’t open the door, after the timeout period (1minute) all of the doors relock along with the tailgate.

You just need a grandchild that's old enough to read ride on the center console. They'll have that screen mastered before the engine comes up to temp!

Yeah, when I initially started looking at a new truck, I looked at this 12' screen and said "It's just too much!" But when you start looking at the cameras on the screen, it's sure nice to be able to see things.

Unfortunately, I lost my DW (my "Nagrivator") 2 months back now from Pancreatic cancer , and my granddaughter is only 3 months old , so it'll be awhile before she can help. Guess I'm just gonna have to study up on it real good. It does so dang much, it's hard to keep track!

I am very sorry to hear about the loss of your DW (navigator ). My deepest condolences.

If it is your daily driver you will get used to it I think. My problem is I use it when traveling for a few months then start using the SUV. When I get back in the truck it takes forever to try to memorize the locations of everything. And it does so much I haven't even tried everything in 8 months.

My deepest condolences for you loss! As far as the truck, it will NEVER look right till you hang some fuzzy dice over the mirror.

Very sorry to hear of your DW's passing. May God provide solace in this time.

Sounds like you selected a great towing beast! It take us a few days to figure out all the goodies on our RAM, although yours being a few years newer has more stuff to conquer.

Stay safe, and enjoy those grandkids, they grow up too soon.

Sorry for the loose of you DW, best friend, and Navigator, not sure how I would deal with such a loss.

Now to your new tow vehicle, I have mentioned the 12" screen before, ours is only 8.5" screen and have just about mastered it after a year and a half.

With a towing capacity of 20,240#, I assume 3.42 rear end. I will say our 2016 Laramie 3500 DRW CTD, Asin and 3.73 has a towing capacity of 25,000+, first tow I needed to check the mirrors taking off to make sure I hadn't dropped the 5er it took off far better than the old 2001 Ram 5.9 NV4500 and 3.55's.
You can't sneeze at a TOWING capacity that is more than your 2nd Gen's GCWR!

I got the 3.73 ratio rear-end. Didn't feel the need to sacrifice fuel economy for more power at this time.

Wow, me like that it is very nice I almost bought one like you but just with the SB. I wanted the fifth gen 3500 so I found a new leftover 2018 3500 with only 19 miles.

BTW: So, so sorry for your lost.
