Electric Hot Water Heater

Hi Everyone, i am new to this forum. I must say that i have learned a great deal from reading the posts and replies. Thanks to everyone for all the experience you are sharing. I just upgraded from an Outback 21RS to a Cougar 24RKSWE. In my outback, the switch to turn on the electric hot water heater was inside the cabin beside the LP Hot Water switch. in the Cougar, it seems to be located at the hot water heater itself. In the outback, turning on the electric water heater was as simple as being plugged it, making sure the heater was full of water (i totally understand the water heater bypass -- which is set to allow water into the heater) and hitting the switch. In the cougar, i turned on the rocker switch by the heater itself, but it did not heat water. the LP heater works just fine. Is there another step that i am missing in getting the electric heater working or am i looking at issues with the electric heater? Thanks again for all the insight i have gained from reading everyone's posts.

You might look in the control panel for a switch marked electric..

My Avalanche has the Suburban heater and both a switch on the unit itself and another in the control panel..

You might also check the water heater breaker in the electric panel, make sure it is on.

From your profile I see the camper is a 2011 model. Check the reset on the water heater. It's a black rectangle with "reset" on two spots, one is for 120vac. Push to reset. The heating element may be open as well (burned out). A simple test with an ohm meter will tell.

Marshall, " A simple teat with an ohm meter will tell." Too mush scotch too early in the day....or no spell-check!

If your going to Ohm out the element, make sure you disconnect the wires first.

Marshall: where do I get one of these teats?

I just couldn't help from piling on. I know it's spell check but it's pretty funny. Lots of funny things come to mind to say (to me) but I'll just leave it alone. Have a GREAT day!!

So I have to ask....what does a hot water heater actually do? I have only ever had a water heater. Is this a new thing, or does it have something to do with the teat Marshall speaks of?
