Furnace…again. So what’s the deal?!?

Before buying our current rig new we used to buy 10 year old rigs and use them for 10 years. So when we sold them they were 20 years old…and still working. Water heaters, furnaces, converters, etc, just all continued to work in these older rigs. But in this “new”, “modern” rig all of those items have failed in one way or another.

Don’t get me wrong, we are really enjoying our 2018 Monty, but I can’t believe the stuff that I’ve had to repair that never broke on our older rigs.

Our furnace isn’t working…again. A year and a half ago it wouldn’t stay lit. Turned out to be the propane regulator. I’ve never had to replace one in 40 years. But I replaced that one and the furnace worked great. Recently it did the same thing…wouldn’t stay lit. I found that the diffuser screen was rusted over. I replaced that and it worked great. Now, a couple months later, it won’t stay lit…again. I haven’t been able to dig into why but, dang. Right not I’m kinda wishing I still had one of those 20 year old furnaces that just always worked.

So, what’s the deal?!?

Take the bug screen off and see if that does the trick.

Thanks, Chuckster, but where is the bug screen? I’ve had this furnace apart several times but don’t recall seeing that.

The aftermarket one. Sourdough (Danny) had the same issue and removed his. Fixed it as I recall.

Since you most likely have the AFMD35 series furnace and and outside access panel I would be pulling the burner assy once a year for annual maintenance..

I’ve seen many posts with OPs having rusted burners, rusted ignitors, etc on this unit. Especially if operating in higher humidity areas..

Of the many RVs owned over the years I have only had two with an Atwood furnace and won’t even consider buying one unless it has a suburban furnace.

That said the Atwood series is usually easier to work on compared to a suburban
