Sliding drawer

How many of you have made sliding drawers for you outside storage compartment? I seen a few videos and have decided to give it a try. Tried of taking everything out to get to something in the back or underneath something else. Did some measurements and I can make a 3’ x 4’ drawer on one side and a smaller one on the other side. Will let everyone know how it turns out.

Great idea! I purchased two heavy-duty slide mechanisms from an RV dealer and used them in a compartment of a food truck I owned. Went from lifting the generator out and onto the ground each time to rolling/sliding it out fully and running it while working. Made a world of difference. I wish I had any external compartments on the KRS!

Our passthrough doors are 34" wide on the roadside and 48" wide on the curbside. The passthrough is 48" on the roadside and 61" on the curbside. There's 14" of "dead space" on the roadside and 13" on the curbside. That's over a foot of space the entire width of the passthrough that is blocked by the sliding drawer systems that are "built up from the passthrough floor"....

All told, there's as much space "on the sides of the doors" as there is "within the door width"... For my trailer configuration, attempting to install doors "to pull through the passthrough door space" would mean having to unload the drawer to get to the majority of the passthrough storage area.

While it may be "convenient for items that fit on the sliding drawer space", on my trailer, trying to get anything that's not on the drawer would be a "nightmare from hell"... Having to unload the drawer to get behind/beside it to get the other stuff makes it impractical for my trailer.

Maybe your passthrough doors are different than mine, but take a look at what space becomes inaccessible when building up the area that would slide through the passthrough doors.....

On our previous trailer, a 29' FR Surveyour, it had a long single plastic slide that was as long as the pass thru was wide. It was accessible from either side. I absolutely loved it because everything in it was easily to get to. It did waste some space as it was shaped like a hopper, wider at the top than the bottom.

On our trailer both doors are the same size so the same type slide could be used and I considered building one but the cost of a light weight one wasn't worth it to me. What I ended up with was using plastic storage bins. On the curb side I store the stuff used on that side. So things for cooking, stuff for the campfire, etc. The roadside bins hold the stuff used on that side like a bin for water hoses, filter, regulator, and a bin for electric cords, adapters, etc. Over the years this has worked well and it's reasonably organized.

I made a 30"x48" sliding drawer for my rv. Slides out to the passenger side. I left the street side as is to put things in without losing any space to side of the drawer.

Unfortunately my baggage doors are only about half the width of the storage space. I've considered a drawer but it would waste too much space.
