Who has changed their plans

While last year our long trip was canx because of the virus and the camp ground closed. Looks like this year our long trip will be canx cause of the price of fuel. Will still do some get a ways but will be shorter trips. Anyone else change their plans for this year?

We're not going to change anything but I will say that yesterday 87 octane was 3.55 in this little village in the FL panhandle. Today it is 4.09. Diesel yesterday was 4.45 today 4.99. I will note I have never paid $4 a gallon for 87 gas and it "irritates" me.

Round trip to Richmond Virginia in 3 weeks will be $1600+ at $5 per gallon of diesel. I bet diesel will be higher than that though. Probably have that much invested in race tickets and RV spots that is nonrefundable.
But I'm considering calling it off.

Canceling plans for any reason is a personal decision based on many factors. Everyone's budget is different as well as their tolerance threshold for when the "juice is no longer worth the squeeze ". Our first trip this year is to Dollywood. We may not go further on that trip we haven't decided yet. In the decades of boating and camping I've yet to park due to fuel prices. If the consumers get stupid and create long gas lines then that changes the equation, for us. The qustion is, will it effect you, how it effects me, or anyone else's spending should not be a factor for you.

I’m heading to the keys at the end of the month, I’m not happy about the fuel prices but not gonna let it spoil the trip.

Now we just dropped one of the boats in the water and the other will wait until probably end of may..one is gas and one is diesel.
300 gallons in each boat …that is a big fuel bill and on the water it’s typically already more expensive.

The diesel boat burns about 12-15 gallons an hour ( less when trolling) and the gas boat is 26 gallons an hour.

Boats might sit a little more this year but still use them

Yes, I considered Phoenix this weekend, until I factored in $400 in fuel.

A friend of ours that lives in the Keys and is a fishing guide for veterans ( he’s a vet also, very nice guy) is posting the cost for gas down there for his boat. 2 days ago it was $4.499. It had been going up about $0.10 to $0.20 a day the past week or so. Ouch.

Well that sounds like a nice life. My son got his captains license and fishing guide license at a very young age. He works offshore in the fiber optics field now but fishes whenever he gets a chance (which isn’t much anymore).

His dream job would be a guide down there

Not changing our plans but the diesel budget went from about $700 last year to $1700 this year.

Just got home from a dentist appointment. Saw diesel prices from $4.89 to $5.19. At least nowdays they only have to push a button to change the price. Remember the days when they had to open change each pump by hand and get the "long stick" to hand new numbers on the sign?

Just like the casinos I never know what it’s gonna be the next day and there is no shortage of clientele at the Tampa casinos. I just had the dealer finish stage two with torque cams on my Milwaukee eight. The mileage suffer severely but it’s fun. 93 octane in Florida is $503 gallon.

We are not changing the number or our trips. But, we will be changing our destinations to someplace closer to home thereby, reducing our fuel consumption. I don’t expect to ‘save’ money but we are going to be careful about how much we spend. We did some planning last night and determined we can stay in some more expensive private (resort-style) campgrounds close to home for less than the fuel for a long trip. We will mix that with stays at state parks and COE…when we can get reservations.

I’m wishing they still changed them like this. Maybe the extra physical work changing the signs and pumps would slow down the increases. LOL

Not changing anything, but have decided to put the swivel wheel behind and take the Harley with us. Can use that for sight seeing instead of the truck and save a little bit on gas. Actually hoping a lot more people will change plans and campgrounds won’t be so crowded.

We are not changing plans we will just bite the bullet. We are the opposite of the Snowbirds when it starts getting hot and humid here in North Central Florida (usually around Mid-march) we head to cooler climates. The last three years we have headed west then north ending up as far north and west as Kalispell, Mt. This year we are heading heading north and then east ending up in NE Maine. My total fuel costs will probably be about the same even though we are traveling about 2000 fewer miles. Hopefully the price of fuel has about maxxed out but, I doubt it. I sure miss Mean Tweets, a Booming Economy and Cheap Fuel.

I thought that's exactly what "snow birds" do, head south when it gets cold and north when it gets warm.

True, but we have a Residence in Florida and with the Snowbirds they have Homes wherever they come from. Before we started traveling so much I would say I was the opposite of Punxsutawney Phil if I went out on my porch in August and started to sweat I went back inside for 6 more weeks.

So same routes, same times, just different state tags. Got it.

I will say that we have already booked a cruise for next year (2023) instead of planning a big RV trip. Not changing plans for this year, but I guess the cost has made a different style of vacation a little more attractive. When we factor in fuel and RV site reservation costs the cruise was a lot less money. Of course, our RV trip this year is 34 days, the cruise is 8, but it just seemed like a good time to cross something else of my wife’s bucket list.
