The steps are too high and heavy to release for my wife and kids resulting in Me having to get out also and open and close the door everytime we have a potty stop in the road. Also I have an issue at my storage place where the steps can’t reach all the way ground level. Very disappointed, but not an easy way to convert to older style. Last complaint is all the dirt that falls off JN the camper when they are stored. I was hoping for a better experience. My 2cents.

Everyone has an opinion

Just measured our 3-step Lippert Solid Step, horizontally out from the camper wall is 47" with the legs 10 holes out.

BTW, lots of people have an issue with these steps because of debris they bring inside when they are in the up position. We don't have a problem, just use a large plastic boot tray on the floor. Wouldn't have the pull-out steps even if they were Free. Got a nice Morhyde metal tool box there now.

More Then Storage Lot Issues

I haven't read every single reply so I hope not to be to redundant. When I bought our Montana we thought the solid steps were the best thing since sliced bread. Well after a year I wish we had the old pull out style steps. It started with the storage lot being unable to open the steps then continued to the highway rest area's when somebody pulls beside you. Then the things you don't think about, when you flip the steps inside your camper, any dirt left on them is now on your camper floor including a lot of water should it be raining when you pack or leave. And last but not least, be careful leveling your camper with the steps down. Most times when we arrive at a campground one of us needs to run to the bathroom, don't forget to raise the steps back up into the camper before leveling, you could easily lose your door and or bend the steps. And then there is our dog whom after several slips/falls and hitting his chin refuses to use the steps and we now need to carry him in and out. Hoping to solve that with carpet wraps to get his confidence back up enough to use the steps again. On the positive side they are sturdy!

"Does anyone have any idea exactly how far the extend from the side of the trailer (not slide) when deployed at a 90 degree angle to the side?"

That depends entirely upon how high the door threshold is from the ground on level ground.

Mine are 4 steps. From the wall of the camper to the end of steps is 53 inches. In order for mine to reach the ground on level ground, I have to extend the feet 6 holes. With the extension out, it's a total of 56.5 inches from the wall to the tip of the foot. (This is on level ground).

For those in the "aftermarket" market, I recommend rv-co.com. Variety of steps and platforms for reasonable money.

This is all great info. We just bought a Coleman TT last September, and right off the bat after looking at others on the lot, my wife is adamant that she wants solid steps. I like them as well, and when in our driveway, would be no issue putting them down and probably not when we store it either, but some of the other things mentioned have me reconsidering now. We both really liked the solid feel of getting into the camper, as opposed to the ever so slight movement of the standard fold out steps.

We have a Cougar 32RLI and when in storage I can extend rear slide fully. That being said, I can deploy solid steps. That should give you an idea of required distance. Also, that is with support legs extended a few holes. You will love the solid steps versus the standard fold out. No "diving board" effect. Ours came with fold out steps and I had solid added. Local RV dealer was able to supply me with matching skirting so folding steps removed and hole covered.
