Plastic Countertop Scratches
not sure where to post this question...i did a search. my 2020 Outback has what looks like a composite plastic kitchen countertop. through misuse it has contracted several light scratches that look horrible. does anyone know of a way to "cover" this up? silicone spray? furniture polish? wax?

You might try some polish made specifically for manufactured countertops.

We have used polishing compounds and extremely fine grit sandpaper.

Use it until it looks like crap and replace it.

We use auto detail shop compounds.

Be careful sanding or polishing. Laminates have a very thin surface print that is easily removed. Solid cast counter tops do have their color throughout and can be safely polished. Be sure you have the type than can be safely polished.

Pull the stove and you’ll get a cross sectional view.

On our solid surface counters at home I use 1000 and 2000 grit and wet sand. It leaves a nice smooth finish. It looks to me like there is a textured finish on the countertops in your photo. I would think and sanding would leave a smooth finish as opposed to the texture finish on the rest of the countertops. If it is a smooth finish go for it.

yep, just noticed it does have a very mild textured finish. that rules out sanding and emery cloth

Absolutely agree with this. Even if you find a way to cover up the scratches, you're going to have more, if you are using your camper at all.
You can probably flatten out the scratch with some acrylic sealers, but it will still show the scratch. (Kind of like pouring a dab of polyurethane wood finish on the scratch and then using a flat tool to pull away the access. What is left fills the crack making the surface smooth again. But, you'll still see the scratch.
