The newest truck on the market ???

It was only a matter of time, I suppose. Hyundai announced they are offering their "first uni-body truck" to be built on the same platform as the current mid size crossover, the Santa Fe. Car and Driver described it as "The pickup for consumers who need to carry bulky, but not heavy cargo"....

I wonder how RV salesmen are going to spin this one???? What are you towing with? Oh, sure, it'll tow anything on the lot, just let me know so we can figure out a way to install a fifth wheel hitch in the bed for you.

Now John, certainly you are not suggesting that some of us might be towing with an under-designed tow vehicle are you?

My RZR would NEVER move that thing with the door open? What kind of mileage do you get with the added drag ???

It's ok - it's balanced by the open slide on the road side. The added drag is in play only on downhill sections of the road since the RZR has no engine brake. Gives the DW something to do on a long trip.

What's the over/under on time here until a new user shows up asking for validation that they just bought it and want to know if that thing can tow their 28' non-lightweight Hideout?

The truck is supposed to hit the market in "mid 2021. If it does, then by August/September we'll have people wanting to know why their 26' trailer sways so much behind their "truck"....

Truth be told, the RZR in Brad's post is probably as good (maybe better) equipped to handle a trailer than the Santa Cruz...

"It'll compete mostly with the Honda Ridgeline, the only other unibody pickup in the U.S. market, but also the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger, GMC Canyon, Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma, and to a lesser extent, the Jeep Gladiator."
Uh huh, and the Queen of England wears yoga pants....fat chance.

My brother did something similar to that once. We were parked at a KOA in Wade, NC, not far from his home. He came by to go golfing with me. He drove his little purple fishing truck everywhere when by himself. He parked it right under our 5th wheel hitch. Linda told us that some passers-by even got out and came over to look-see.

That’ll be a truck just like the Ridgeline is a truck.

Saw a picture of the Ridgeline with the caption saying;

"A SUV WITH A BIRTH DEFECT"

The term 'truck' is getting more vauge....lol
ElCamino's were closer to being a truck than the Ridgeline and this thing. At least they were RWD, had V8's with torque and a full frame that was stiff.

Same with SUV. Some call a Type 181 (Volkswagen Thing) an SUV and a Ford Excursion an SUV. And yet you fit one inside the other.

The RV world is coming up with a new marketing catch phrase for sales personnel: "fifth ton towable". Calling something with no frame a truck is questionable at best. The ranchers around here would call that thing a golf cart.

The Ranchero and El Camino were only good for taking a single bay of hay to feed a horse and that's only IF the road in between was paved!

Not sure what I'd call it, but rest assured it would never be called "MINE".
I had a '69 El Camino (wish I still had it) that I hauled building materials in when building our 1st home, much more than a single bale of hay & wouldn't trade it today for 3-4 brand new Honda's or Hyundai's so called "trucks".

Seems like it's just a Santa Fa with the back left open so all your stuff gets wet. Folks would be better off sticking with the SUV. They just want something they can call a truck to sell to the to the folks in the 'burbs that don't want to climb all the way up into an F150. Work vehicle? never happen.
