Converter Question

First off let me say i am new to the forum, great info gained just as a lurker.
What i am needing is info on what type of controller i have and if it needs to be upgraded. I am a journeyman electrician so it does not bother me to tear into the electrical. I have already added an inverter and two outlets in the TT that run off of it. Anyhow any info as to determine the type and model would be great. OK, what i have is a Passport 285RL, three 90 amp hour batteries and a 3000 watt inverter. Thanks in advance !!

"info on what type of controller" not controller, converter

Welcome to the forum and glad you stopped lurking and decided to join us. If your Passport is handy, is it possible for you to go into the unit, find the converter and determine what type/model it is?

In many Keystone RV's, you will find a WFCO Power Center or Converter. Models vary from unit to unit.

converter

yes i have located the unit and there are no manufacturer or model #s visible. just random #s on various individual parts. unless i am looking at the wrong item and i am very sure i am not, it is located directly under the power panel in the same housing with the power wire going to the breaker labeled rec/con. and DC wires tied into the DC side of the panel.

On our '08 Cougar, the converter front has a louvered bottom and an upper, hinged panel. Once this panel is released, you will see rows of 12v blade-type fuses and several 110v breakers.

An installation.operator's Manual for the WFCO converter came in a package along with a number of other manuals - mainly for the various appliances. Have you, by chance, come across any such manuals in your Passport?

I had to take mine apart to know for sure. After pulling off the panel cover, the lower half has the converter itself. The heat sink and the circuit board both had the WFCO 8955 model number on them.
