Fresh Water System & Pump

We purchased a 2021 Keystone Bullet 290BHS a year ago. For the first time since owning the unit, we had to utilize the fresh water system and water pump during our last camping trip due to an issue at the camp in which they had to shut the water off or a day.

My question is, in order for water to move through the unit to the faucets, the Winterize setting near the water intake had to be switched to "on". Is that normal? I would think that unless we were winterizing, we would want to keep that in the "off" position.

Any insights welcome on if this is possibly something off on just my unit, or if others have experienced as well.

Thanks!

No it shoould not be necessary to bypass the water heater. Post a picture of you convenience center where you are turning that valve and DO NOT USE THE ELECTRIC HEAT on the WH while it's in bypass.

No, we don’t have to bypass the water heater for it to work, but I have to turn the other knob to the “winterize” option. If I don’t do that, no water makes it into the faucets.

Can you post a picture?

Post a pic. It’s not uncommon for things to be labeled incorrectly, or a label to be for a nearby valve and gets confused for which one it goes to.

Can’t get a pic up but this is the same unit. 4th or 5th pic shows the convenience compartment for the water.

How long did you run the water pump? Is your water heater full? If the water heater isn’t full, what could be happening is the pump is filling the water heater so you won’t get water to the faucet until it’s filled. Obviously, bypassing the water heater removes that issue.

A picture of YOUR unit will tell us what position the valve is in. To post a pic, first click on advanced at the bottom of the text box next to submit reply. That will add a row of icons across the top of the message box. Click on the paperclip to the right of the black & white smiley face. That opens the attach file window. Pick the location of the picture file, then upload, then save.

You can find out if your valve might possibly be labeled wrong
Attach a short length of garden hose to that port labeled "Winterize".
Put the other end of the hose into a bucket of water.

Turn on your water pump.
One position on your Winterize valve should suck water out of your fresh water tank, and the other position will suck water out of your test bucket.
That should let you know which position the valve needs to be for camping or when winterizing.

Perhaps your valve is labeled wrong

A couple of simple questions; before the camp water was shut off for the day, was everything working correctly? If so, why bypass the water heater and why put it into winterize position? When camp supply was off, was your fresh water tank full? Water pump turned on?

Everything was working fine before the water was shut off for the day (when we were using the traditional fresh water connection). We didn’t have the water heater on bypass. We had the knob for winterize set to off. We had the pump switch set to on. When we would open a faucet, the pump would kick on but no water would come out. We checked the pump to make sure there were no clogs inside. Then, out of curiosity, we flipped the winterize knob from “off” to “winterize”, and water would run through faucets (hot and cold).

We purchased a 2021 Bullet in the fall of 2020, we traded it in and bough a 2021 larger Bullet this past fall. One item that changed was the winterization valve. Was moved to the utility bay instead of under the bunks in this model. Upon delivery, the dealer told me that he had found that the labeling of the on/off valve was incorrect. I verified this and the solution was to cut the labeling and basically reverse OFF/ON. I will be taking the trailer out of storage today and can send a picture later.

I know I've read another post about this happening to other units.
