Hitch mounted hoist

I need something to lift and remove generators from the back of the truck.
I'll let you know about it when I receive it.

Post back on that. I don't have a direct need for it right at the moment but can see where it would come in handy, especially down the road. Better to have it and not need it than need/want it and not have it I figure.

Will do.
Since it's getting close to travel season thought I would put it out there in case someone was in the same boat as me.

I've got a friend that's got that same hoist. His only "problems" with it are:

1. It doesn't reach far enough into the bed to lift something without sliding it to the rear of the truck.

2. It is "centered" on the truck's receiver, so there's limited space to swing anything "bulky" without wrestling it to keep from hitting the sides of the bed.

3. He still has to lift his generator over the hitch to get it to the back of the truck to use the hoist. He tried a long extension, but the vertical bar on the hoist bent into the tail gate (and scratched the plastic on his new truck) which made him "not a happy camper"...

It's a good concept, but the one he has only works once he manually lifts his generator over the hitch and pushes it to the tail gate. I think his sits in the garage more than it sits in the truck on trips..... YMMV

Not to be argumentative but:
I can roll the gens to the back of the bed fairly easy; no hitch, just the gooseneck ball and tiedowns.
The inside of the bed has a spray on liner.
Storage in the bed could be an issue. It is in 3 pieces so it should fit "somewhere".

Just letting you know what issues a friend encountered with one. No doubt there are a "buttload" of places it would work. About all he uses his for any more is loading deer into the truck and he cusses every time it swings around that bent vertical pole and he gets blood on the outside of his truck.

I hope it works for you, let us know the results.

Javi that looks like it's built a lot stronger. I was looking at the one gearhead posted and in the photo where the guy is lifting the Hobart welder the top of that hoist looks like it's ready to fold to me.

I don't know what the Hobart welder weighs bu I bet it's more than my 100# generators.
WTH...a generator report...I bought 2 Champion 4650 watt inverters last spring. Both had issues with fuel, but the local warranty shop got them running good. I just did an oil change with Shell Rotella T6 15W-40 synthetic. Scary thing is they only take 1/2 quart of oil. Filled them up with some real non-ethanol DeQuincey Louisiana Phillips 66 gas. Cranked and ran good.
Step one for the spring race season.

OK, here's my thoughts. The hoist looks like it would work, but one thing to REALLTY consider? If you are attempting to crank up 100 pounds of (anything), you are lifting 100 pounds with single pully's. That means, you need 100 pounds of crank force to lift the weight of 100 pounds.

I think it will still work, but you may want to put double pully's and a longer cable on the hoist. A double pully with reduce the "crank" weight to 50 pounds to lift the 100 pounds at the end of the cable. But, you also need to double the length of the cable distance. Add a 3rd pully and you reduce the crank force by half again. With 2 double pully's you can reduce the crank weight to 25 pounds, but it will take 4 times the length of cable.

If you can add more pully's I think you'll be just fine.

I found it interesting that they used a heavy welder in that ad as well.

When our daughter sold the marital home last year she gave me the HF 9000 watt predator still new in the box. I couldn't beleive how little oil it held. Her idiot ex husband bought it and never even opened the box.

Dang man you get a merit badge for all that thinking. Too late in the day for me!
I will look at it closer when I get it but, there appears to be a gear reduction on the winch. It says it has a ratchet on the winch going up, but not down, that could get interesting.

Same here. I think it would encourage me to do an oil change every 6 hours. Hopefully the Rotella doesn't shear and does its job.

If it's like the neighbor's, it's a single action (small gear on the handle turning the larger gear on the takeup spool) boat trailer winch. Locking spur to "ratchet in/up" and unlock the spur and it falls out/down.

LOL Oh yeah! First time I'll be on grass not concrete.
Hopefully my arms will not be like spaghetti wrapped around the winch handle.

Stand back and let your arm and hand take the hit, not your face.

Most folks would say my face has already taken a few hits, what's a few more. LOL.
We'll see how it goes.
