OK, I see. 'Fix Or Repair Daily'. I thought you were dissing on all but Chevy and maybe miscounting letters in RAM

I have to say that I did drive a 2000 Ford with the 7.3 Diesel for 13 years. It took pretty good care of me. I also had a 1996 Chevy Diesel that was a terrible rat hole for pouring money into.

If I had to buy a newer truck today I would personally be open to any of the top 3. They've all evolved over the past few years to being solid performers. Everyone's got their fav's for sure. And, just like our trailers, some have had bad enough experiences with one brand or another that will keep them from ever buying another one. My current RAM is a solid performer so won't be in the market soon.

I'm curious how George has kept his Ford running well. Again, personally, there's no way I'd buy a 6.0 or 6.4 liter Ford Diesel. Although I understand that when they are bulletproofed they can perform well.

I've heard it said that if you want to build the perfect truck it would have a Ford body, a RAM engine, and a Chevy Tranny.

Truth be told, the GMC 6.6L diesel is a joint venture between GM and Izuzu.

The 10 speed "Allison branded transmission" is a joint venture between Ford and GM.

The Cummins has a long line of "part owners/investors" including Ford who tried to buy into controlling interest so they could "diss Dodge" way back when Ford was having problems finding a replacement for the 7.3L Navistar.

Any more, between "sharing technology" and "marketing/sales that has to remain competitive" there probably ain't a hill of beans difference between anything the big 3 makes in any "market share" whether it's the compact SUV or the HD truck market. Remember when the 88 Crown Vic came out with what looked like Oldsmobile tail lights ???

I agree with the above.

Dually -- diesel

My stock answer: if you're asking then you are worried about being underpowered or unable to handle to load. Step up to the rig that will handle your trailer and you won't worry if it can handle it. My opinion!!

Has anyone mentioned that at least CA has licensing requirements for trailers 15,000 pounds and up?

If you have a CA driver's license you need a trailer endorsement to legally tow a trailer over 10,000 lbs and a non-commercial Class A driver's license to legally tow a trailer over 15,000 lbs. If you have a triple axel tow hauler that is a dead give-way that you are towing over 15,000 lbs.

I started with the truck first and then found the toy hauler.

My starting truck WAS a '12 RAM 1 ton dually 6.7L diesel. The thought was if you have a 1 ton dually, you can take on just about anything.

WRONG

I did the scales with my new to me 2013 395LEV triple axle. It grosses at 18k#. I was actually just a few pounds under for legality sake, but what I didn't know/realize was that the total combined weight rating was just 23,250#. I weighed 26,240# with only one Harley on board...👎

Did the RAM do a good job of hauling the toy hauler, yes. But that lack of stopping power was always in the back of my mind.

Same toy hauler still, but TV is now a '21 Ford F-350 King Ranch dually diesel...👍 All I can say is WOW!

Anyone trying to haul my toy hauler with a SRW 1 ton would have their hands full... And their underwear...😀

I tow a Cedar Creek 15,768lbs, I had a SRW but I needed a crew cab for grandkids so I traded for a 2020 Silverado 3500 SRW that couldn’t pass a dealership. I traded for a GMC Denali 21 3500 crew cab DRW because I got a good deal on the Denali, boy I sure wish I had my deleted SRW back. When pulling I run 65mph and get 10.5mpg on the DRW, on the SRW I got 12.5 running 70mph. I tried to trade and the dealer gave me a good price really but no deals on new trucks. Funny thing was he offered $7,000 more than I paid. But for a big toy hauler I would get a DRW, actually my DRW with 17in tires keeps my Cedar Creek legal in height. It seemed to me that the 2020 Silverado SRW was wider than what the DRW is. I use the DRW as a daily driver, DW has a 13 Mercedes that has 35,000 miles and my DRW 2021 has 25,000 miles on it

I have a Raptor 423 and pulled it with a Ram 3500 with max tow package. I have no complaints at all with how the truck handled the RV, however; when I was fully loaded the trailer was at 19060 pounds and the weight on the truck was exactly 2000 pounds over factory GVWR. So I upgraded to a Freightliner Sport Chassis. I know that most will tell you that you're fine with running over the factory GVWR, but with the increase in law enforcement ticketing for over license, I figured that it's only a mater of time before they will start looking at the factory weight ratings. And then there is the threat of law suits if you are the cause of an accident while being over the factory GVWR.

Wow, makes me feel a little bit better about my weight! Our 2016 Ram Laramie 3500 DRW scales 10,000# with me, DW, 35# beagle hitch, and in-bed tool box.

Definitely Dually

Agree with everyone suggesting you move up a big notch to dually. Just to add, the ride and you’ll feel much more in control is worth the added cost. If it was Ford, I’d almost say you might consider 450 bs 350 dually.

A few years back I had a friend do the same thing. He asked my advice and I said Dually Diesel all the way. He ended up get conned by a salesman into a F350 SRW. He said it was a deal he couldn't resist. He ended up trying to all kinda suspension mods to make tow better. Never got it right.

I tow a Raptor 367SE that is a 3 axle 18,000 GVW. Pin weight is near 3K. I tow it with a f350 DRW Diesel. My total weight truck and trailer with full load, is 23,000. Not including people. I do not recommend you get a SRW Anything, let alone a gas motor. My rig in California requires a commercial Class A due to the GVW. Many states do not, however I suggest you check with your local DMV to make sure you have the license to pull this rig. I think it is great that you ask before you purchase. I towed my trailer at 1st with a SRW, and I was not over on axle rating but over total GVW. The DRW also makes it a much smoother ride. I would recommend airbags for the tow vehicles, makes for no squatting and a nice ride. Good luck
