Washer Hookups Won't Turn On

I was winterizing yesterday and decided I'd do the washer hookups this time around since I always forget about them. I don't have a washer and have never used them. Rig will be 3 in January. I did everything I could to turn them on with my hands and they won't budge. I didn't want to put a wrench on them and feel I shouldn't have to. Any ideas why they won't turn? They look perfectly clean, no corrosion that I can see. Baffled.

If you have not winterized them in the past perhaps they have been damaged by freezing and need replacement. JM2¢, Hank

Re: Washer Hookups Won't Turn On

That's a possibility. My thoughts are though since they stick straight up and unlike a faucet that curves down and water can get trapped in it, when you open the low point drains the water in them will drain straight down very easily so there really shouldn't be any water left in them to freeze. I know it doesn't take a lot, but...

Re: Washer Hookups Won't Turn On

I think they are "quarter turn" valves. Not much of a handle on them. If they never have been used they probably have taken a set. Maybe tap on them a little on top. I wouldn't get too carried away.
Probably just leave as is.

They're 1/4 turn valves. Put a small Crescent wrench on them and carefully exercise them back and forth. Once they are moved, they should loosen up. Mine are hard to turn after a period of disuse...and they need to be blown out during the winterization process, as water seems to get trapped even though the low point drain is opened.

Re: Washer Hookups Won't Turn On

Thanks guys. It's supposed to be nice this weekend so I'll try gently tapping and wrenching them. If that doesn't work they get left alone until next time I'm at the RV place.

Re: Washer Hookups Won't Turn On

When I winterized this last weekend, I thought about putting a shut-off on the W/D feed lines. They will probably never be used.

On our rig the hot/cold washer feeds tee into the bathroom sink right inside of the vanity, and run horizontally thru a raceway to the front nose closet. They're actually in plain sight, believe it or not. Probably will be a twenty minute job, once the pieces/parts are purchased.
