now you did it

This is a question that will surely get a lot of answers across the spectrum. I have never had one, never had a problem. Lucky? Maybe, am I in the market for one? Not at this time.

Look at the map in my sig, that will tell you how many different states/campgrounds I've been in since 1989, and I can say without reservation that at least 95% of the Ca. sites and 100% of all others have been full hookups.

Let the debate begin

Newer rigs have more electronics in them and therefore are more sensitive to adverse power conditions such as surges, high and low voltages, bad wiring at CS pedestals etc. Yes, it is an insurance policy and basically sometimes you win and sometime not. I am sure we all would like to be able to buy protective policies the day before we need it Yes, I have protection for my Raptor both for shore power and my onboard generator.

It won't hurt to have one. Why debate it just get one for piece of mind. I've personally found several open grounds with my Progressive EMS. Also, it has shutdown on a low voltage situation too.

Simple answer is yes. The other answer is how much risk are you willing to assume? I camped for years without one, saw a very expensive 5'ver nearly catch fire as we were setting up camp. Turned out the power at the campground was wired incorrectly. Apparently some new pedestals had just been installed. I checked ours with a volt meter and was not happy. I now own a protector. They are in the $200-$300 range. How much will i cost to replace the major electronics on your unit?

I do not have one and never had but at some point I might wish I did, who knows. I would never say they are not needed as if someone thinks they need one then they should get one.

I had a problem with the power at Disney Ft Wilderness in Orlando, Fl of all places. They took great care of us but thankfully I had a surge guard installed and likely saved my camper from some serious damage.

I put a progressive in my rig. And I,am always pugged in to shore power at the house. And once a week run the gen. So transfer switch and progressive unit gets exercise. There is a thread and pictures in the community social group section. 361 lev may not be your rig but the idea is there.
