Porch/Deck

Anybody have a portable deck or something they bring. My 4 year old is too short and his arms are not long enough to safely stand on second step and open the door. Every time he tries he almost sweeps himself off the step with the door.

Honestly it could be easier for me too. I am thinking about making a 3x3 landing that I could easily disassemble (no tools) and either put in the camper for travel or the TV.

Of course this looks good but I would worry about the weight and long term operation (a pic I found on the web):

I'd think about putting something to the side of the existing steps. My 5 year old contortionist can get in if it's the screen, but not main door for the same reason.

Maybe something like this if 18" will get him within reach of the door handle:

Or do a search on "pet stairs" for stuff that's taller.

I haven't tried it, but I've been tempted to get one of these for my kids. And me, for that matter.

That's interesting, a different way to approach the issue.

I'll have to think about that one, already picturing a DIY version with just a loop of rope with a knot in the end that I could attach/detach for each trip. I could drill a hole in the latch/handle and feed the rope through it (just push it in the hole thru the back and let the knot hold it), but eventually that might damage the latch.

A portable deck of some kind still intrigues me....

Yes, a "landing" in front of the door would be nice when loaded down. These guys claim portability.

I really like that. A starting price of $1200 makes me want to try and fab my own though.

Actually you could get 2 U-shaped steel channels- mount them to the trailer frame- make a plywood floor- cover it with indoor/outdoor carpet- then you could slide it in & out from under your trailer. Mount 2 folding legs for support at the end of the slide out.
When not in use just slide it back under the trailer and put some locking device to keep it from sliding when traveling.
Just a cheap suggestion.
Happy trails,

We have some friends who made something similar to this. theirs is not very "portable" because it is all one piece, but they tend to go & stay for weeks at a time so no big deal to them.

I'm going to order one of these for a "deck" at the steps, it weighs 50lbs. Will give a good place to take off shoes or clear debris from shoes before entering the TT. I would think it wouldn't take much to fab this into a higher deck.
