Postcard from Vienna

Our cruise ended in Koblenz, Germany and we are now having to finish our trip to Budapest by bus. During one stretch, the bus had to take an alternate route because of flooded roads..

One interesting note..... In many countries in Europe large commercial transport trucks ..semis., are not allowed on the highways on Sundays. Saves fuel, cuts down on pollution, and reduces traffic on highways. You can see hundreds of them pulled over at rest stops waiting for midnight to arrive so they can hit the road again. These rest stops are huge and easily dwarf those found here in North America. A typical rest stop will include at least one petrol station, a cafe, gift shops, and restrooms or "WC's". Always carry coins when stopping to use the restrooms......usually about 70 cents to have a pee.

Have yet to see any more pick up trucks other than the one spotted a few days ago. A few cars pulling trailers but the flooding rivers have kept a lot of RVers at home.

We are in a hotel right on the banks of a very high, very muddy, and very fast-flowing Danube River. When we checked in , we were all issued life jackets. ....just kidding.

Sorry to report I wasn't able to do much for our stranded German camper.

In three days, were off to Budapest and hope that the flooding which is taking place there right now will have lessened. I think the airport there is accessible so there shouldn't be any interruption with our flight back home.

Festus, that was what we noticed throughout most of Europe. The rest areas were almost like small parks. The food was good, prices resonable and clean! Italy was the best. We would buy some salami, bread and cheese (OK, wine) and were good to go.
