Slide-out problems

I have a 2011 Cougar - My last time out, my 12 Volt lights would gradually grow dim then suddenly they would get real bright.

Then when we got ready to close the slides, there was not enough power to close them. I had to connect my external battery charger to my battery before I had enough power.

Immediately I suspected the voltage converter.

I will be going out camping again in about 3 weeks...suggestions?

Slide-out Problems

I think I agree with you on the converter being out but you could check the terminal connections make sure they are clean and tight.

Proper operation of the slides depends a great deal on your 12v battery and its condition. If your battery is low, the slides won't work at all or will not retract or go out easily and will also put unnecessary strain on the slide motor.
I'd check the condition of your battery. If you hook the TV up and run the slides in and out, they should operate smoothly. The converter doesn't have much to do with the operation of the slides as there is a direct connection between the battery and the slide motor. The converter is out of the loop.

Were you plugged into shore power at the time?

If you're plugged in, then the converter has *some* to do with slide operation, as the converter is feeding the battery some power for charging.

How long do your lights stay bright? From the sound of your post, it's cycling from dim to bright.

Scott -
True, the converter does play a role in the slide operation but only in the sense that, when plugged in, it keeps the battery fully charged. The slide will still operate without being plugged in and therefore completely independent of the converter.
In order for the slide to function properly, it requires full battery current and voltage. There may be a poor terminal connection at the battery or elsewhere in the negative ground system. A bad ground connection is often the culprit.
In any case, a fully-charged battery with good connections all round is key to successful slide operation.
