Battery and Dealer Repair

I've seen this issue before so we were prepared for it. But still it was a surprise. We insisted upon and received an appointment for a warranty repair to the awning and we waited around "town" for 5 hours. When we were able to pick up our unit, we had no electric. Now, because you all have warned about this, we did check for the battery cut off switch and yes, it had been turned off. Of course we had food in the frig but luckily the freezing temps outside for those 5 hours prevailed. The repair tech was right there and said, no, we didn't turn it off! LOL. This post is just to remind new owners that this is a common practice at dealers.

Thanks for the reminder!

On the following, we formerly had a propane/AC fridge and were the type that did not travel with propane on. As long as we started with a fridge at temperature stocked it the night before with frozen/cold food...and didn't open it (too often/at all) We NEVER had a problem in this time frame even with with fairly hot weather. We now have a 12V only fridge/solar so don't worry about the fridge at all.

Not to be a butt head, but if a customer drops off a unit for repair AND TELLS us there is good in the fridge/freezer we plug it in and make sure the fridge is on.

You can’t put the blame on the shop.

Not piling on but I agree with Chuck. It's all about the communication. If you don't tell the person your dealing with that something specific needs to be done then they aren't going to take it upon themselves to change anything not directly related to what they are doing. If you take your truck into the shop you don't expect to get it back with the seats, mirrors, and heat setting all readjusted.

Thank you for making folks aware of this as so many people think the dealer should take it upon themselves to turn the battery disconnect off or on unless it's necessary for doing the work. If they turn it on or off then I would expect them to restore it to the setting they found it in. If they changed it and left it then I would be jumping all over them. Sounds like the lesson to learned is to check on the work when you receive it. People make mistakes and no one should mind showing you, or explaining what they did when you pick up your unit from the shop.
